October 2019

  From the Senior Warden

We can finally announce the name of the priest we have called:  His name is Jonathan Clodfelter and he comes to us from St. Mark's Church in the Frankford section of Philadelphia where he has been since 2002.  He has extensive experience in outreach, serving as President of the Northeast Committee on Homelessness, and participating in ministries such as the Hispanic Ministries Task Force, and the Human Trafficking Working Group.

He has degrees from the University of the State of New York, Villanova University, and Virginia Theological Seminary.  He also served as an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Army and has traveled abroad and in the United States.

His first Sunday with us will be October 13.  We are sharing his ministry with St. Stephen's, Clifton Heights.  He will conduct our early service, go to St. Stephen's for their service, and then return to lead us in our later service.  To make this schedule between the two churches work, we will need to adjust our 8:00 am service to 7:45 am and our 10:15 am service to 10:30 am.  Our Adult Forum will stay at 9:00 am but we will be starting our Sunday School at 10:15 am instead of 10:00 am.

After our 10:30 am service we will welcome Jon (he prefers to be called Jon) with a brunch for everyone, including folks from St. Stephen's.  Jane Nyiri will be contacting people about making quiches and breakfast breads. We are calling this our Welcome Sunday so we hope to see everyone that day.

In addition to Welcome Sunday on October 13, there are two other events that deserve your attention.  On Friday, October 11, we will have the funeral for Richard Huber, husband of Mary Huber, father of Heidi White, and grandfather of Marina White.  Visitation will be at 11:30 am with the service at 12:00 noon. Internment at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill will follow the service and a luncheon will be back at Redeemer after the internment. Father David will officiate at the service.

On October 15, we will serve the Darby Mission Dinner.  So we will have a lot happening in October. Welcome to Redeemer!

George Baughan
