Year-end financial statements due by Nov. 1st

Club and Committee leaders, it's time to turn in your group's Annual Financial Summary Report for the last 4-H program year (September 1, 2017-August 31, 2018). Each club and committee is required to complete this form, whether it has money and inventory or not. Not sure where to begin? New clubs should turn in items listed above AND those listed b elow:

Member/volunteer enrollment: Members and volunteers must also enroll/re-enroll online at https://mi.4honline.com and pay a $20 per youth/max. $60 per family Michigan 4-H participation fee. Cash, check or credit card payments are now accepted by Macomb County MSU Extension. Please make checks out to MSU. Credit card payments are accepted by phone (586-469-6431) or in person at the MSU Extension Office in Clinton Township during regular business hours. In lieu of payment, a Participation Fee Scholarship Application should be turned for each youth who is requesting a scholarship to cover the State 4-H Participation Fee.

Remember that youth can enroll in 4-H at any time, however, returning members planning to show 4-H projects at the 2019 Armada Fair must be enrolled by Nov. 1, 2018 and new members by April 1, 2019. Horse project members planning to participate in the County Point Shows also need to be registered with the Macomb County 4-H Horse Program Committee by May 1, 2019.

Club disbandment : If your club is not returning for the 2018-19 program year, please contact the Macomb County 4-H program staff for important information about the required club disbandment process.

County Awards

How do 4-H'ers compete in 4-H? Macomb County 4-H'ers work hard on their projects all year, and the 4-H County Awards Program is one way for them to be recognized for their efforts. Members (and volunteers) can apply or be nominated for a 4-H County Award. Consider applying or nominating a deserving 4-H'er!

Michigan 4-H members who are currently enrolled in a Macomb County 4-H program and are 11 to 19 years of age as of January 1 of the current program year are eligible for the Macomb County 4-H Awards Program. The Macomb County 4-H Awards Program is divided into two age divisions: Junior (4-H ages 11-14) and Senior (4-H ages 15-19). The purpose of this awards program is to recognize Macomb County 4-H youth for engaging in rich learning experiences that result in outstanding knowledge and life-skill development. It's worth it! After participating in the County 4-H Awards Program youth will:

Learn to better communicate and articulate their accomplishments on professional applications such as scholarships, college entrance applications, résumés and cover letters for employment
Have more experience and be better able to communicate during job interviews
Build long-lasting friendships and establish connections with industry and academic leaders
Be encouraged to set new goals, continue building skills and assets, and broaden interests
Be eligible to apply for State 4-H awards

County Awards applications must be returned to the Macomb County MSU Extension 4-H Office or be postmarked by October 1st . Please note that the deadline has been changed. TSC 4-H Paper Clover Fundraiser - Oct. 3-14

The Tractor Supply Company (TSC) 4-H Paper Clover Fundraiser is October 3-14, 2018.

Contribute during the fundraiser by d onating in store at the register, d onating online at checkout when making a purchase on tractorsupply.com (Donations will be assigned to states based on the shipping location) or d onating by phone when you call TSC Customer Solutions at 877-718-6750. Donations received at the Romeo, New Haven and Richmond TSC locations will benefit Macomb County 4-H.

Farmada event needs volunteers with animals - September 9

Advantage Living Center in Armada is holding an event called Farmada on September 9, 2018. They are looking for volunteers to bring rabbits, poultry, sheep, llamas, calves, goats, dogs and cats for the residents to be able to pet and enjoy. If you are willing to bring a kind-hearted animal, please call Darla at 586-784-5322 and ask for the activities department. Pet rabbit needs a good home

Doby is a pet Netherland Dwarf rabbit, and he needs a good home. He weighs about 3 pounds, is kitty litter trained and likes to be outside on nice days. The current owner is leaving for college and will be unable to give him the attention he needs. Please contact Lynn at 586-945-0527 if you're interested in adopting this rabbit.

Completing Your 4-H Group's Annual Financial Summary Report

4-H club and committee leaders, every 4-H group is required to complete an Annual Financial Summary Report annually. 2018 Michigan 4-H Goat Project Youth Workshop

Participants in the 2018 Michigan 4-H Goat Project Teen Workshop will have the opportunity to rotate through hands on educational sessions that cover topics such as parasite management, exploring the digestive system, dairy goat judging, and make it, take it, use it goat equipment! At the conclusion of the day, participants will be invited to compete in a goat judging contest!

Michigan 4-H recognizes true leaders with 4-H State Awards

Nearly 100 outstanding Michigan 4-H members gathered on the campus of Michigan State University (MSU) June 21, 2018, to celebrate their accomplishments through the Michigan 4-H State Awards Recognition program. During the event, 31 youth received Michigan 4-H State Awards, the highest honor bestowed on Michigan 4-H members.

Hosted by Michigan State University Extension , the awards ceremony was held at the Kellogg Center on the campus of MSU and attended by 4-H State Award delegates, their families, 4-H staff members and volunteers, industry partners, donors and sponsors.

"With more than 200,000 4-H'ers across the state, the youth honored with State Awards are some of our most elite 4-H'ers," said Jake Dedecker, Acting State Leader of MSU Extension, Michigan 4-H programs. "Their commitment to bettering themselves and their communities through service and extensive 4-H work really make them true leaders in their clubs, counties and state."

Michigan 4-H State Awards may be presented in 19 potential award categories that showcase the diverse array of 4-H knowledge, skills and experience. Recipients of the 2018 awards are:

Beef Science: Rebecca Herzog of Mecosta County (senior division).
Bird and Poultry Science : Fawn Muraske of Newaygo County (junior division) and Grace Schmidt of Livingston County (senior division).
Civic Engagement : Ganna Omar of Houghton County (junior division) and Paige Sweet of Monroe County (senior division).
Communications and Expressive Arts : Alivia Funchion of Monroe County (junior division) and Andrew Wittbrodt of Isabella County (senior division).

Connecting Entrepreneurial Communities (CEC) conference offers a number of innovative sessions for adults working with youth? Below is just a sampling of the 27 classes offered. Empowering Young Entrepreneurs: Join us for an exciting conversation on engaging young people in exploring entrepreneurship as a career option. Curriculum, resources and innovative youth entrepreneurship programs from around the state will be shared.

Saving Small Towns With Big City Ideas: Small towns continue to lose young people as they are drawn to big cities and the urban lifestyle. So how can small towns attract and keep the younger people they need to sustain the community? This session will look at what is attracting millennials to big cities and how those characteristics can be adapted to small towns.

Junior Main Street-Community Connections to Youth: Main Street programs serve as a catalyst for an energetic downtown. Creating community connections to youth can build civic duty and a greater appreciation for history while encouraging long term residency. Participants will learn how to develop and fund successful outreach techniques for youth and practical approaches that can be applied in any community, large or small.

Mind-boggling Opportunities: Preparing for the new economy: Is your local government ready to compete in the new economy? To attract new residents, businesses and create jobs, local governments need to consider if their current processes and preferences accommodate the needs of a changing world. This interactive session will review the "New Economy Checklist," which evaluates your current local government practices and policies.

Pitch Nights: How pitch nights can help launch businesses in your town. They are fun, exciting and productive...if done right! Learn from several small communities who's 2017 pitch night programs resulted in 19 new business launches.

What are visitors "First Impressions" in your community? First Impression Tourism Assessment (FIT) helps communities learn about strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities through the eyes of first-time visitors. The results of FIT form the basis for future development, spawn local leadership, and strengthen community vitality. Come learn how to be a FIT community and apply it in downtown Charlevoix.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn how you can develop the next generation of entrepreneurs in your club, school, church or community.
