SavesecondsSave Seconds - Save Lives
Improve Emergency Response Time with  Automatic Vehicle Identification

At a fire station in a major U.S. city, a paramedic rescue unit  is dispatched to an emergency call involving a man in cardiac arrest. As the paramedics approach the victim's address, they see it is   inside   a gated community. Without   a Gate Preemption System,   the crew   hurriedly searches for the   correct emergency access key. After 45 seconds, they locate the correct key and enter the gated community.  The additional time it took to obtain the correct access key, could have made the difference in saving the patient's life.

In Clark County, Nevada, gated communities are required to have an emergency gate ingress system. Reno A&E AVI-SOS™ transmitters are mounted under every emergency vehicle, (Fire, Law Enforcement and EMS), allowing all gates to be opened automatically by only authorized vehicles. The AVI-SOS™ transmitter sends a special code through inductive loops connected to a RAE AVI-SOS™ detector that verifies valid / pre-authorized vehicles, and sends a signal to open the gate.

Lives depend upon a rapid response from emergency services, and they demand the best in AVI technology and reliability. The RAE AVI system has been deployed for more than 20 years, with more than 50,000 units in operation worldwide. ApplicationThe Application of Big (Traffic) Data to Transportation Operations and Planning in the Asia Pacific Region

Dr. Bill Sowell, Vice President of Business Development for Eberle Design Inc., presented "The Application of Big (Traffic) Data to Transportation Operations and Planning" in the Asia Pacific Region at the 15th REAAA Conference and IRF Global Road Summit at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia.

During his presentation, Dr. Sowell answered overarching questions associated with Big Traffic Data and its relevance to transportation planning and operations. He also identified the technological, organizational and commercial issues that need to be addressed in order to leverage the concept successfully in the Asia Pacific Region.

The International Road Federation is a global non-profit NGO, headquartered in Washington, DC since 1948 and supported by regional offices throughout the world. The IRF serves a network of public and private sector members in more than 72 countries by providing world-class knowledge resources, advocacy services, and continuing education programs which together offer a global marketplace for best practices and industry solutions.

EvolutionThe Evolution of Loop Technology

Inductive Loop Detector technology has been in use for the detection of vehicles since the early 1960s. The first loop detector designs were based on solid-state analog technology using discrete components including transistors, diodes, etc. These designs were very similar in many respects and provided detection of vehicles occupying the zone defined by the perimeter of the loop.

The loop areas varied from small loops (e.g. six feet by six feet) to very large loops (e.g. six feet by 100 feet). The loop sizes varied depending on the requirements of the control system. Smaller loops were typically used with "volume density controllers" where vehicle count information was needed to vary the timing of traffic signals. Large loops were typically used with "LOC" controllers (loop occupancy control) where the traffic signals responded on demand to the detection of vehicles in the prescribed detection zone.

These controllers offered improved efficiency in moving traffic on streets and highways as compared to the earlier "fixed time" controllers, which changed the traffic signals based on an internal time clock without regard to the vehicle traffic demand. Over the years reliable vehicle detection has become increasingly important to the proper operation of traffic signals.

AccurateAccurate Vehicle Counts for Parking, Toll & Access Control Revenue Systems

The ATG Series
Anti-Tailgating Vehicle Detectors for Exact Counts
  • Missed vehicle counts mean potential lost revenue
  • Counts bumper-to-bumper passenger vehicles
  • Detects multiple vehicles entering or exiting during a single gate cycle
  • Provides single- or dual-lane directional counting
  • Counts vehicles accurately even if a metal object is placed in the loop area prior to vehicle arriving over loop zone
  • Accurately audits revenue collection at parking facilities
