Northern Sky Theater Offers First Student Matinee to Door County Schools
Performances will be followed by a talk back with the creative team behind the show.
FISH CREEK, WI - Northern Sky Theater will perform two student matinees in October for four of the Door County school districts.

"Offering student matinees has been a challenge in the past, since we were always limited by our rental spaces during the school year," stated Marketing Director, Ann Birnschein. "However, with our new Gould Theater, we had the opportunity to bring about this long-term goal."

"Dad's Season Tickets" is a musical comedy that celebrates family, folly and football but it is also a story that writer Matt Zembrowski wrote to try and bridge the gap between his two life-long loves: sports and the performing arts.

In addition to attending a performance of the production at Northern Sky's new home, teachers and students will have the opportunity to ask questions of the writer after the show in a talk back. The show guide was also provided to the teachers to help the students more deeply understand how both Shakespeare and The Green Bay Packers inspired "Dad's Season Tickets."

"As a writer, you never know how or when inspiration is going to strike. I was watching a DVD of Shakespeare's King Lear several years ago, right around the time I was toying with the idea of writing a show about Packers Season Tickets when the idea clicked," stated Zembrowski. "I quickly devised a story about a father named Frank, who decides to draw up a new will and must name one of his three daughters as the recipient of his treasured Packer season tickets. It just seemed to make sense, despite the seemingly disconnected subject matter."

The story of King Lear revolves around an aging monarch of a fictional kingdom who calls his three daughters to him and, in exchange of a pledge of their love for him, divides his kingdom amongst them

Students attending the morning performances will be local high schoolers from English and Language Arts classes.

These student matinees are supported in part by a sponsorship from the Door County Renaissance Faire.

Remaining tickets are available for sale to the public for the 10:00 am performances on Friday, October 11th and Friday, October 25th. For tickets contact the Northern Sky box office via phone at (920) 854-6117 and online at www.NorthernSkyTheater.com.

Northern Sky Theater is a non-profit professional theater organization that produces original musical shows in repertory from June through August in Peninsula State Park. Northern Sky continues its performances into the fall with shows indoors September through October and over the Christmas holiday.

Northern Sky Theater had its beginnings in 1970, when a small troupe of talented college students, the Heritage Ensemble, began performing folk revues for an audience of mostly campers in Peninsula State Park. Over the decades, a dedicated group of artists with Wisconsin roots transformed the company into a regionally acclaimed, professional theater, remarkable for its commitment to developing and performing its own material.
