All regularly scheduled YMCA Land Fitness classes (excluding Zumba classes) are free to those 55 and over when they present a Glen Ellyn Public Library Card or Guest Pass at the B.R. Ryall YMCA. Ten spots are available per class for YMCA non-members. For more information call 630-858-0100.

How's Your Hearing?
Tuesday, September 4 | 10-11 am
Discover how loss of hearing affects you and your family, friends, and coworkers from John Hartman and Dave Columbo of Audiologic Services in Glen Ellyn. Hartman, an Audiologist, and Columbo, a Hearing Instrument Specialist, will discuss what it means to lose your hearing and the correlation between hearing loss and cognitive functioning. Medical Cannabis
Wednesday, September 5 | 7-8:30 pm
Medicinal cannabis, or medicinal marijuana, is now available in Illinois. Discover why Illinois and more than 25 other states have their own medical cannabis program with Kirsten Velasco, Patient Advocate for Illinois Women in Cannabis. Velasco will discuss the science, biology, and laws, as well as common misconceptions. Reserve your spot.

Those Were the Days
Thursday, September 6 | 7-8 pm
Relive the magic of old time radio when Radio Players West recreates radio programs from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. Using live sound effects and original scripts, players will perform Who's on First and Sherlock Holmes: Scandal in Bohemia. Reserve your spot.

Sarah Blair, Mobility Outreach Coordinator for the RTA, will discuss public transportation options on Pace and Metra for older adults and individuals with disabilities and how to make public transportation work for you. Reserve your spot.

The library will be closed Monday, September 3 for Labor Day. Though the library building may be closed, your GEPL card can unlock incredible resources via the library's website. Stream movies and TV shows, download an ebook, and more!

Did you know...Many states passed legislation recognizing Labor Day as a holiday after around 10,000 workers in the New York area marched in the first Labor Day parade. Congress, however, did not recognize Labor Day as a holiday until 1894, in the wake of the massive unrest following the Pullman railway car strike.
Open Late Following Staff In-Service

The library will open at 1 pm on Friday, September 7 following a staff in-service that morning.

Friends of the Glen Ellyn Public Library
Friends is a volunteer organization dedicated to raising funds to supplement the Library's annual budget for materials and programs, and support literacy initiatives in the local community. Friends welcome new members and offer service opportunities for youth and adult groups. Learn more about the Friends of the Library.
Glen Ellyn Library Foundation
Glen Ellyn Library Foundation was established in 1998 to build an endowment that will ensure that future residents of Glen Ellyn enjoy high quality library service in an attractive, state-of-the-art facility. Donations to the Foundation are deposited in the endowment fund and interest earned on the principal investment is used to help fund special Library projects. Learn more about the Library Foundation.

H.H. Holmes - The True History of the White City Devil
Thursday, September 6 | 7 pm | 800 N. Main St.
Hear one of the Glen Ellyn Historical Society's favorite speakers, Adam Selzer, talk about H.H. Holmes  and learn more details about this 19th century Chicago serial killer. Adam's book H.H. Holmes: The True History of the White City Devil is considered the first truly comprehensive biography of Holmes, drawn from thousands of primary sources, many of which had been unseen since the 1890s. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for GEHS members.

SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES

Everyone knows that starting and running a small business is tough. Whether you're looking for new opportunities or solutions to problems, there are a variety of ways the library can help. In addition to business seminars on various topics, the library is introducing hour-long, one-on-one mentoring opportunities for local businesses. These sessions provide you a chance to discuss your specific business opportunities and issues, and network with different organizations in the area who can provide you with a variety of resources. There are still a few openings to talk with a professional from The Illinois Small Business Development Center on Thursday, September 6.
