Our programs and service to you will remain the same but as of September 1, our office site will be located at the Goodwill Campus, 1800 Appleton Rd in Menasha. Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region awarded Fox Valley Memory Project a grant from Chalice Circle of King's Daughters & Sons Fund to provide a unique training opportunity. The 5th Annual Spark! Conference is taking place in Appleton on September 20 and 21. Fox Valley Memory Project is sending 10 of its volunteers who help to support and facilitate Memory Cafés, Purple Angel training program and FVMP Bus Trips.
Spark! is creative arts programming offered in museums, nature centers, and cultural venues for those with memory loss disabilities and their care partners. Spark! is internationally known and strives to engage and enlighten persons living with dementia. Conference attendees will learn best practices and new ideas in art and culture learning programs from nationally recognized presenters as well as hands-on learning sessions. Topics will include learning about brain health, art-making, grant writing, and building community partnerships.

Memory Cafés
|
Memory Cafés welcome those experiencing early stage dementia, mild memory loss or cognitive impairment, as well as family and friends of those affected. They are a great opportunity for lively discussions, information gathering, refreshments, camaraderie and creative fun! We have a gerontology professional available to answer questions and an enormous wealth of experience among participants to be shared. We'd be delighted if you would join us!

Get Creative At Atlas Waterfront Café

Join us on Thursday, September 6 at 2 pm
at the Atlas Waterfront Café, 425 W Water St (Paper Discovery Center building) in Appleton. Korina Theisen of Create.Fox Valley will lead us in a creative activity to make home themed wood painted signs. A special thank you goes to Jean Chew who provided the funding for this project in memory of her husband, Jim.

Memory Assessment Center
|
Assessments are offered at Mosaic Family Health in downtown Appleton by Dr. Lee Vogel and resident physicians. Initial assessments screen for memory impairment, assess overall health and, if warranted, proceed to a more comprehensive evaluation to diagnose the cause/type of dementia. Transitions Support Group
|
Fox Valley Memory Project hosts a specialized support group focusing on the needs of the care partner as they transition into new phases in their life. Our discussions are focused on topics such as grief, guilt and shame, placement in long term care, treasuring memories, self-care and setting personal goals for the future.
We will be starting another "Transitions" program in September and are looking for care partners to join. Our co-facilitators are Rev. Karon Sandberg, Heartland Hospice and Lynn Ann Clausing Rusch of the Fox Valley Memory Project.

REACH In-Home Caregiver Support
|
REACH (Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer's Caregiver Health) is a 6 month evidence-based in-home caregiver intervention program. REACH supports the caregiver by addressing issues such as emotional well being, stress management, troubling behaviors, problem solving and self-care.

As We Head Out for Autumn Fun

Please join us on Thursday, October 11 as we travel on a coach
bus with old and new friends for our next exciting day trip.
Our first stop is at the
Neville Public Museum where we will have the opportunity to engage in a SPARK! program about the secret lives of bees. We will adventure into the hive to discover how bees live and work. We will also have the opportunity to take a 45 minute guided tour of the museum and special exhibits about the Green Bay Packers and the history of Brown County.
Our lunch will be served at Titletown Brewing Company. Located at a historic railroad depot, our luncheon site is the home of a popular area microbrewery and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our afternoon stop will be a tour of the newsroom and studio of WBAY Action 2 News!

Fox Valley Memory Project and the Alzheimer's Association are partnering to present a year-long educational series about dementia.
The next workshops are entitled "Understanding & Responding to Behaviors" with a special focus topic called "Purple Angel Dementia Awareness." These workshops will be presented at

at the Neenah Public Library, 240 E Wisconsin Ave and on Tuesday, October 9 at the
Prince of Peace Church, 2330 E Calumet St. in Appleton.

Join the "On a Positive Note" Chorus
and Put a Little Music in Your Life |
Welcome our new director Kathleen Albrecht as she leads the "On a Positive Note" chorus in practicing favorite and familiar songs. This chorus is especially designed for those experiencing memory loss and their loved ones. No special musical skills are required.

5th Annual SPARK! Conference
"Connecting through Creativity"

The 5th Annual SPARK! Conference will take place on Thursday and Friday, September 20 & 21 at The Building for Kids Children's Museum in Appleton.
The SPARK! conference provides a diverse offering of training focused on best practices for creative engagement through art, nature and culture. The conference will feature nationally recognized presenters, in-depth and hands-on sessions which will include brain health, art-making, grant writing, building community partnerships and many others.

SPARK!
|
SPARK! is a program for caregivers and loved ones living with memory loss. The Trout Museum of Art (with a second program at St Paul Elder Service) and The Building for Kids Children's Museum are pleased to be among the Wisconsin museums awarded funding by Bader Philanthropies and the Community Foundation to create programming where participants engage in lively discussions, art making, and multi-sensory activities.
Each one-hour program is led by a specially trained museum educator who will engage participants in interactive exhibit experiences. After each program, coffee and conversation is led by volunteers who give participants and caregivers the opportunity to support and socialize.

Valley VNA Senior Care Offers Lyrics & Laughter
|
Research shows that music, especially with active participation, demonstrates physiological, emotional and social benefits to those with memory loss. Active participation stimulates the brain and also has some physical benefits. Music is a road to memories and helps those with dementia to engage and socialize in ways they normally cannot do.
The next series of "Lyrics & Laughter" begins on
Thursday, September 13. You can choose between a morning session beginning at
9:30 AM or an afternoon session beginning at

A monthly respite program is held on the 1st & 2nd Monday of each month at St Paul Lutheran Church in Neenah. The next program w
ill be held on
Monday, September 10 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm. There will be no program on Monday, September 3 due to the Labor Day holiday.
Offering care partners 2 hours of personal time, this free program is staffed by professional caregivers and trained volunteers. Activities include music, organized arts, crafts and refreshments.
