JA Corporate Masthead
We're in the home stretch!  It's hard to believe, but we're just about to enter the fourth quarter of our fiscal year. And while there probably are businesses and organizations that can coast to the finish line, that certainly isn't the case with Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio.

A large percentage of our classroom programs will take place in the next 10 weeks, and we will hold several fundraising events before the end of June, too! We need your help to finish our year successfully. Perhaps you'd be willing to volunteer to lead a JA program in a class? Or will you join us for an upcoming Bowl-A-Thon or for JANCO's Annual Golf Outing? You can find our open class list and information about upcoming special events on our website:  jaofnco.ja.org  .

Special thanks to our hard working staff and our dedicated Board of Directors. We recently learned that our office has been named a "5 Star Award" winning area by JA USA. The purpose of the Star Award is to recognize staff and boards of JA Areas that meet Junior Achievement's national standards in operational efficiency and through strong representation of the JA brand.

Thank you all for your part in our success!

The JA Career Readiness Conference introduces high school students to future careers and provides them with the skills to apply for and secure their first job through interactive discussions, activities, and a business simulation competition.

During the JA Career Readiness Conference, students will have the opportunity to participate in ONE of the two different Conference Tracks during this one-day event.  The two tracks are: The Titan Track, in which students use their business knowledge to compete for scholarships using the JA Titan online simulation program,  and The Career Track, in which students learn about high-growth careers and interviewing best practices through interactive discussions and then participate in mock interviews.

After lunch, ALL STUDENTS will participate in a discussion of and activities relating to Financial Literacy using the JA Personal Finance program as the guide. Local banking and finance professionals will lead this activity. Students will learn that healthy personal finances take planning and managing and they begin to analyze major life events and issues that have financial implications. VolunteersWCRCVolunteers Needed for the Western JA Career Readiness Conference
Do you already volunteer for Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio? Do you want to volunteer but are uncomfortable with presenting in front of a classroom? Do you want to volunteer but haven't been able to commit the time needed to present an entire JA program?

Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio (JANCO) is excited to bring the JA Career Readiness Conference to Richland County on Friday, April 21st. This event has been held in Summit County quite successfully for years. Now we are hosting a second conference in order to reach more students. This event introduces high school students to future careers and provides them with necessary job skills. Additionally, all students participate in hands-on financial literacy activities, showing students how healthy personal finances take planning, budgeting, and managing.

What can you do to help?
  • JA Titan: Students compete to win scholarships using the JA Titan program online business simulation, which allows students to gain a real-world understanding of the effects management decisions have on a company's bottom line. JANCO is looking for volunteers to mentor the high school Titan teams throughout the competition. If you have a good sense of business management, this is a fun volunteer opportunity! Training on JA Titan will be available.
  • Career Skills: Human resource experts and hiring managers share tips with the students on applying for their first job. Then, volunteers lead mock interviews with students in small groups. If you want to showcase your company and provide valuable information to the next generation of workers, this is the right volunteer opportunity for you!
To learn more about volunteering at the JA Career Readiness Conference or to sign up to volunteer, please contact Carol Carbary at (330) 434-1875 x14 or [email protected].
AprilFinLitApril is Financial Literacy Month!
When did you start saving for retirement?

Were you ever given information to help explain your options?

According to Junior Achievement's 2017 Teens & Personal Finance Survey, a large disconnect exists between young people and a basic understanding of 401Ks. Although 30% of teens know that a 401K is a retirement plan where the employee contributes a certain amount and the employer matches, the majority (70%) of teens don't know what a 401K is based on anything that they have read or heard. The survey of 1,000 U.S. teens between the ages of 13 and 17 was conducted March 17-21, 2017 by Junior Achievement USA and ORC International.

Help us celebrate Financial Literacy Month and improve these statistics by teaching a financial literacy program this spring! Available classes can be found HERE
