Pottery, baskets, dishware, and kitchenware of all kinds will be available, including baskets of every size, plates, bowls, mugs, vases, planters, and decorative pieces. A number of the pottery pieces were made by known potters.
Everything will be priced to sell. Stop in and shop!

Meet the Author: Jim Saunders
Saturday September 8th, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Jim Saunders will be selling and signing his novel, Animal Dances. In the book, Jim blends the eyewitness accounts of letters with historical fiction and creates an engaging story of a young man conscripted into war, who discovers an unknown capacity to be bold and decisive, while enduring unimaginable hardship.

An Evening with George Michelsen Foy

Award-winning author and essayist, professor of creative writing, and former mariner George Michelsen Foy will be reading from his latest book, Run the Storm: a Savage Hurricane, a Brave Crew, and the Wreck of the SS El Faro, and discussing seafaring, hurricanes and similar topics. A Q +A and book signing will follow the reading. Books will be provided by Titcombs Books.

Sustainability and "the Sweet Life” -- a new global perspective with William Powers

Drawing on decades-deep experience living and working abroad on development and conservation projects, Powers offers insights and provocative anecdotes about the real link between happiness and sustainability from the academic as well as personal perspective. Powers will discuss his new book  Dispatches from the Sweet Life: One Family, Five Acres, and a Community’s Quest to  Reinvent the World, a memoir that explores these issues. Books will be available for purchase. A Q + A will follow the talk.

Movie Screening of Chasing Coral

The Life and Death (Mostly Death) of Edgar Allan Poe

Join Greg Williams as he explores the sordid life and mysterious death (deaths?) of Edgar Allen Poe. This talk will delve into the history and myth surrounding Mr. Poe’s short life. Does anyone truly know what happened on the day of Poe’s death? We shall see.

Short Story Book Group
Meets the 1st Wednesday of every month starting September 5th, 2018 @ 6 PM.

The group will read and discuss one short story collection a month. Text will range from classic collections to more contemporary selections. The reading group lead by Reference Librarian Corey Farrenkopf.

All New Books and Brew Book Group
Sign up now for Books and Brew, our fiction/non-fiction co-ed book club that pairs books, beer, and banter! The book club will meet the first Tuesday of each month starting this October. Library Trustee Greg William will be the book group coordinator.
 
The first meeting will be Tuesday October 2nd, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. The group will discuss Brutal Journey: The Epic Story of the First Crossing of North America by Paul Schneider . There will be a selection of beer available during the discussion, and nonalcoholic refreshments for those that prefer them. 

Books will be available at the circulation desk one month prior to each session, or you can order the titles through CLAMS.

Registration is required. Space is limited . You must be 21 or older to attend this program.

Exciting Overdrive/Libby News
Exciting news for all of our Ebook/Audiobook app users!

CLAMS is now participating in a Massachusetts pilot program tentatively called the “Recipricol Lending Arrangement (RLA)” for digital titles which allows CLAMS public library card holders to borrow OverDrive material from several other Massachusetts library networks including MLN, OCLN, SAILS, CWMARS, and MassCat.

When a CLAMS patron logs into OverDrive they will now see a drop-down to choose a network. (see screenshot above) They will need to enter their library card number and PIN number to access new content. Gifts From Oma

A collection of hand-carved and hand-painted treasures created by Carol McClelland will be on display in our Lobby wall case.


Annette McAdams will be displaying her paintings in acrylics and mixed media in the Simpkins Room.


Care For the Cape and Islands will be displaying their environmentally friendly alternative products, coloring books, and local pond guides in our Lobby floor case.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of exhibited art, photography, and crafts benefits the Sturgis Library. Proceeds are used to enhance library services and programs.

Boston Children's Museum discounted admission passes have arrived!
We now have discounted admission coupons to the Boston Children's Museum, thanks to the generosity of a patron, through our Adopt-a-Pass program.

The coupon allows up to four people to visit the Museum at half the regular admission price. We have coupons available for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Passes are day and date specific.

If interested, contact Sturgis Library at 508-362-6636 to reserve a pass. These passes must be picked up at Sturgis Library but do not need to be returned; the museum will collect it from you .

Preschool Storytime
Thursdays @ 11:00 AM

Sturgis Library offers Drop-In Preschool Story time on Thursday mornings year round! Enjoy stories, music and movement with Miss Megan. Program is designed for children ages 2-5 and their parents or caregiver, but siblings are always welcome.

LEGO Club
Wednesday September 5th, 2018 from 4:00-5:00 PM

The Sturgis Library LEGO Club meets the first Wednesday of every month. Come enjoy our MASSIVE collection of LEGOs and create a masterpiece or just play with new friends.

Kids may choose to exhibit what they have created for the remainder of the month so Library visitors can oooooh and ahhhhhh at their engineering brilliance!

FREE After-School Snacks
Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-5:00 PM

Free healthy after-school snacks will be available every Wednesday throughout the 2018-2019 school year from 3:30-5:00 PM and are served to kids 18 and under while supplies last.
