We're gearing up to launch a special series of our
Planning 101

Please stay tuned for dates and locations near you. We hope to see you there!

Project Planning 101 Training Video Now Available
|
This past spring, the Department wrapped up the second series in the
Planning 101
training program.
Project Planning 101
covered the basic elements of the City's development process and key points for public participation.
More than 450 community members attended the seven training sessions across seven regions of the City.
Due to popular demand, a full-length
video
of the training is now available online. This presentation includes an overview of the Department's Project Planning Bureau, a review of project types and decision makers, and a discussion on the City's processes and procedures for case intake.

In April, the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee directed staff to report back on the process for increasing the proposed cap on
short-term rentals
— also referred to as "home sharing."
The updated ordinance will be considered by City Planning Commission on September 13.

The Department recently initiated the first wave of proactive inspections under the Monitoring, Verification, and Inspection Program (MViP). The primary purpose of the program is to monitor compliance of conditional use permits for alcohol sales and live entertainment in the City of Los Angeles.
Inspections will be conducted by the Department of Building and Safety — working in coordination with the Department of City Planning — to ensure that operational conditions are observed to keep surrounding communities safe.

A new development of 99 small lot homes and a 64-unit multifamily residential apartment building was recently approved by the City Planning Commission.
This project — located at
7660-7702 and 7718-7728 North Lankershim Boulevard in
North Hollywood — will also include four Very Low Income units.
Earlier this year, the City Council adopted the Department's revised
Small Lot Ordinance
and
Design Standards
. The ordinance increases housing opportunities within existing multifamily and commercial zones, while ensuring that new projects are compatible with the character and scale of surrounding neighborhoods.

Fun Fact: The Bradbury Building in
D
owntown Los Angeles — designed by architect George H. Wynan — was inspired by 19th century science fiction. Ironically, almost 100 years after its completion, it was featured in the 1982 sci-fi film Blade Runner.
This architectural landmark was designated a Los Angeles Historical Cultural Monument in 1962, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977.
