As you know, Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rico in 2017 causing catastrophic damage.
Recovery is difficult for hurricane survivors given the extent of destruction and the many obstacles to getting back to normalcy. Financial resources for the massive reconstruction are limited.
The Problem: Local government agencies and other community organizations are experiencing a desperate need for current maps that show flood zones, landslide prone areas, transportation and other critical infrastructure which were heavily impacted throughout the island.
The Solution : Updated mapping will help local communities rebuild and plan for future disasters, as well as make important decisions about the sustainability of their communities.
Please help these small communities recover and prepare for the future, by funding travel expenses for GISCorps volunteers that will provide them with maps to aid in recovery planning.
A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help make this vision a reality. Donations are tax-deductible. Every little bit helps.

GIS Leadership Academy - Upcoming Programs in Austin, Raleigh and Toronto!

The Academy has enjoyed steady and enthusiastic participation since it was first presented in 2007. Since then, more than 800 GIS professionals have attended the specialized five-day GIS leadership and management training program.  Each GLA includes numerous interactive exercises, team-building tools, and opportunities t o delve into topics in a way you cannot do at a large conference. Attendance is limited in size to encourage such interaction with each event capped at about 50 participants.

To meet demand, for the first time, URISA will host the GIS Leadership Academy three times in one calendar year. We'll be in Austin, Texas during the week of December 3, 2018.  R egister by September 4 for early bird discounts (we're already two-thirds full!)

Planning ahead? In 2019, we'll be in Raleigh, North Carolina during the week of May 20-24, 2019 and in Toronto, Ontario August 19-23, 2019. Registration is open!
