Days are getting longer, its finally Spring! Its time to shake off those winter blues and enjoy this busy time of year; Easter, Mother’s Day, Victoria Day and Ramadan are all just around the corner. Whatever you do try to spend some family time together!
Plan shared time together as a family. Whether it is a weeklong family vacation or a weekend picnic at a nearby park, time away from the everyday stresses of home and work can be used as valuable time to unite your family. Feeling connected to something beyond themselves lets children know they belong. It is one of the conditions necessary for a child to develop a positive sense of self-esteem.
Recognize the need to play! Remember as a child when it seemed like all you did was play? As adults, we forget that we can and should still play, especially with our children. The longer days almost beg us to get outdoors and be together.
Start a garden! What about having your child start their own garden? Flower, vegetable or both? Taking a trip to the garden center can be a lot of fun as your child chooses different coloured flowers, and plants. If space is limited you could try growing potted plants and vegetables. Some flowers to plant in early spring are pansies, forget-me-nots, and primroses. In late spring, gladiolas, begonias, dahlias, daylilies, and daisies work best. If you’d rather plant vegetables, try tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, beans, and cucumbers in late May
However you choose to spend the time, be safe and have fun!
Sincerely,
Leslie Wilson
