Professional Development Day took a new form on
January 18. Attendees were invited to break into groups and attend a series of
lectures
taught by faculty and staff on a variety of subjects.
There were four 20-minute lectures per session and four sessions over the course of the morning with a brief break in between
to allow attendees to find
the next classroom and instructor.

While we await word from Hartford on the new budget, many of you are focused on the future, working hard on our strategic plan. We'll continue to keep you informed via email of the progress on both fronts.

Legislative Breakfast Sheds Light on CSCU Budget
On March 1,
President Ojakian shared his thoughts concerning the state budget to our state
legislators
and federal legislative aides, as well as TRCC
faculty, staff and students. He answered questions from the audience, then various legislators discussed their work as it affects TRCC. Attendees were also treated to the new
Dominion video about their partnership with our Nuclear Engineering Technology program campus.

Jodi Calvert Wins National Award
On Saturday, February 11, Jodi Calvert received Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate at the 36th Annual Conference on the First Year Experience in Atlanta. She was one of only two in the nation to be recognized for her work at a community college.

$920,169 Approved
for Three Rivers Renovations
The State Bond Commission passed almost $1 million in funding for Three Rivers Community College to make improvements to its campus in Norwich.

Strong Turnout for Seminar on "How to Afford College and Minimize Student Debt"
On January 30, Kenneth Briggs, Director of Financial Aid, and Ed Muenzner, chair of the Three Rivers Business Department, spoke to a packed room on how to best utilize financial aid as well as how to take advantage of educational tax breaks. Watch a recording of the presentation.

Winter Ball Raises $4,550
The Winter Ball was a huge success. Attendees danced the night away, bought fun-filled baskets, and had a great time. Student Programs was excited to announce that the ball raised over $4,550, which will be used to support Departmental Scholarships.

On December 20, Dianne Kent, Sr. Community Relations of People's United Bank and
TRC Foundation Board Member,
presented President Mary Ellen Jukoski and members of Student Services with a generous donation of $3,500 to the Three Rivers College Foundation's Emergency Fund.

Congratulations to Dr. Laura Qin on successfully defending her dissertation,
"Assessing the Relationship between Student Success and Multiple Measures Placement at a Community College,"
on Friday, January 13. She has earned the degree of Doctor of Education, Ed.D. from Johnson & Wales University.

Congratulations also go to Dr. Joan Graham. On February 9, she
earned her Doctor of Nurse Practitioner, DNP, from
American Sentinel University by successfully defending her dissertation, "
Evaluating the Impact of High-Fidelity Simulation on Standardized Test Scores of Associated Degree Nursing Senior Students."
