Kitten season is still in full swing and we need your help finding homes for the scores of cats and kittens we have in our shelters.
Running through October 31st, adopters will have the opportunity to take advantage of our
Feline Frenzy promotion, where all cats over one year of age can be adopted for $5, and all kittens can be adopted for $25.
Whether you're looking for a single feline companion, or have been waiting for the right time to bring a litter of kittens into your home, you'll want to take advantage of this reduced cost promotion. Typical feline adoption costs can run from $84-$127.

Employers, Hiring Managers, HR & Recruiters (Over 200 registered guests that included over 80 businesses).

Tips for Seniors and People with Disabilities During a Power Outage
|
Here are some tips and ideas that may help you during and after a power outage:
- Speak with your neighbors about setting up a check-in system. Decide how you will communicate with each other (by phone, knock on doors, etc.)
- Have information about your medical conditions, medications, emergency contacts, and insurance provider nearby.
- Wear medical alert tags or bracelets at all times. If you have a communication disability, make sure your emergency information notes the best way to communicate with you.Have a pen and notepad or paper handy.

Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. An unopened refrigerator will keep foods cold for about four hours. If in doubt about the safety of any food, throw it out.

Eat canned and non-perishable foods, and keep a manual can opener on hand. Meal/snack ideas that don't require cooking:

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

Salad
-
Prepared tuna salad kits, readily available in most grocery stores

Canned fruit or vegetables
-
Consider combining food and resources such as camping stoves, gas grill, or water filter to benefit your immediate community.

The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, and other local food pantries, are available for people in need.

Unlock electric security gates and garage doors to ensure you can get in and out.

Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.

Keep a flashlight or battery-operated lantern within easy reach. Do not use candles for heat or light, as they can be a fire hazard.

Use portable generators cautiously. Operate them outdoors only in a well-ventilated area. Refuel generator only after it has cooled. Do not connect a generator to your home's electrical system.

Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis is hosting a Blackhawk Public Safety Town Hall along with Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingston and San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Fire Chief Paige Meyer.
They will address current public safety issues in the Blackhawk community including PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program and funding for local law enforcement services.
Police services in Blackhawk are provided by the Sheriff's office and funded through a parcel tax.
The Blackhawk Police Services Advisory Body, County Service Area P-2, Zone A (P2-A) are appointed by the Supervisor and will also be on hand to explain their role as your liaison and
to discuss their recommendation to the Supervisor on raising the parcel tax and why the committee feels it is in the best interest of the community.

Arts Recognition Awards
Contra Costa County demonstrates a wealth of artistic expression in every corner of the county.
This year, at the October 22 Board of Supervisors meeting, AC5 presented Seven Arts Recognition Awards to honor outstanding achievements in the Arts.
AC5 is pleased to honor those who have made a significant artistic or philanthropic contribution to Contra Costa's Arts and Culture.
This year's honorees are:
- Dr. Leonard E. Anderson, Founder of the Danville Community Band and Music Educator from Danville
- Napoleon Dargan of the Art of Health and Healing Initiative, from San Pablo
- Rosalinda Grejsen Co-Founder of the Art Guild of the Delta, Inc, from Brentwood
- Leslie Noel, Founder of The Peter Pan Foundation, from Lafayette
- Kelsey Wengel with Dougherty Valley High School and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, from San Ramon
AC5 also presented two Commission Special Awards:
- Lafayette Town Hall Theatre, in Celebration of their 75th Anniversary of presenting theatre of the highest professional standards and their 300th Production
- The Blue Devil Performing Arts Organization (aka Concord Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps) in celebration of their 62nd anniversary and the Blue Devils A Corps for winning their 19thDrum Corps International World Championship.

Marsh Creek Road Retaining Wall Work
One lane of traffic will be closed on Marsh Creek Road on
October 24 & 25, 2019
between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
at the bridge just east of the Marsh Creek Springs resort,

The lane closure is needed to refinish the retaining wall adjacent to the bridge.
Drivers can expect traffic delays of approximately 5 minutes.

Operation Documentation Event
|
Clerk-Recorder's Office and Veteran Services are once again partnering to host a free event to help veterans and their families gain access to benefits they are entitled to because of their honorable military service to this country.
The third annual Operation Documentation event will be held 8 am to Noon on Wednesday, November 13th outside the Clerk-Recorder's Office, located at 555 Escobar St. in Martinez. The DMV, and staff from the Assessor's Office, Human Resources, and Treasurer/Tax Collector's office and other area veterans groups will also be on hand to provide information to veterans.
There are roughly 54,000 veterans in Contra Costa County, yet less than 150 had recorded their DD-214 documents at our office between 2006 and 2016. Over the past two years, thanks in large part to the Operation Documentation event, we've recorded well over 150!
The Clerk-Recorder Division offers veterans a place to record and store their DD-214 honorable discharge documents free of charge. These documents provide veterans and their spouses access to veteran benefits, medical insurance, compensation, and even discounts at some retail stores. Often these documents can be displaced when the veteran or their family needs to find them. These documents can also be destroyed during natural disasters such as fires or even earthquakes. This event also provides a place for veterans to learn about all the latest law changes and potential benefits they are eligible to received.
You may be asking: why is this important? Well, as one veteran told us recently, recording the DD-214 document here offers "peace of mind."

The Contra Costa County Administrator's Office of Reentry & Justice (ORJ) is pleased to announce, on behalf of the Board of Supervisors, the solicitation of proposals from responders to implement "Innovative Reentry Programs" during the period of January 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021.
Up to $300,000 (three-hundred thousand dollars) will be awarded to successful bidder(s).
Final responses will be due by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 651 Pine Street, 10th Floor, Martinez, CA 94553.
The decision to award any contracts related to this RFP is scheduled to be considered by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

Assessment Appeals Board

The Assessment Appeals Board conducts impartial hearings on property assessment disputes between taxpayers and the county assessor. Based on the evidence presented at these hearings, the appeals board determined the value of the disputed property or determines other matters of property tax assessment within the board's jurisdiction.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess five or more years of professional experience in California as one of the following: licensed real estate broker, attorney, certified public accountant (CPA) or public accountant, property appraiser accredited by a nationally recognized professional organization, property appraiser certified by the Office of Real Estate Appraisers, or property appraiser certified by the State Board of Equalization.
Compensation:
This is a volunteer position. Assessment Appeals Board members are compensated for their time at hearings and reimbursed for their mileage to attend assessment appeals hearings.
The Assessment Appeals Board meets every Thursday at 9:00 a.m. located at 651 Pine Street, Room 107 in Martinez.
