Sound Sculptures Installed at Costa Mesa's Mesa Verde Library
An array of sound sculptures have been installed for free use by the public outside the Mesa Verde Public Library in Costa Mesa: an imbarimba: a fiberglass instrument that resembles a marimba and kalimba and is played with two attached mallets; a swirl: a set of aluminum chimes with a broad range; a yantzee: a xylophone-like instrument that features a series of aluminum bars; tuned drums: a set of five toms. Eclectic Offerings at Emerging Arts Leaders Salon
Visual art by seven local artists and a mix of performances that included music videos, a guitar duet and a dance solo were featured at Emerging Arts Leaders OC's "Back Room Salon," held recently at OCMA Expand. The next EAL-OC casual "Hoppy Hour" no-host bar gathering is on Thursday, November 21, 6:30 pm at Trade Food Hall, 2222 Michelson in Irvine. More photos from the Salon and more information here.
Bank of America Renews Support for ArtsOC's Professional Development Offerings
Workshops, convenings and roundtables offered as free professional development opportunities to Orange County arts organization Board members and staff have been underwritten for several years by Bank of America, which has renewed its support for 2019-20. Patty Conover, Assistant Vice President, Orange County Community Relations Manager (above) delivered the good news to ArtsOC's President & CEO Rick Stein. City of Costa Mesa has won a Helen Putnam Award from League Of California Cities for its SMART Camp Program, a partnership between the City and Newport Mesa Unified School District that provides  students an opportunity to participate in Sports, Music and Arts Camps. More here.

City of Newport Beach Council voted to submit a grant application to accept a $500,000 State of California grant arranged through the efforts of Assembly Member Cottie Petrie-Norris. The grant will support Phase V and VI of the Sculpture Exhibition in Civic Center Park (2020 & 2021). More here.

Bloomberg Philanthropies Offers Public Art Grants to Cities

Bloomberg Philanthropies' Asphalt Art Initiative responds to the growing number of cities around the world embracing art as an effective and relatively low-cost strategy to activate their streets. They offer a free guide online plus have a December 12 deadline for grants of up to $25,000 to new projects. More info here.
