CAHEC Connection                                  September 2018

In This Issue

For the second year in a row, the Better Housing Coalition (BHC) set a goal to collect backpacks and school supplies for 150 elementary, middle, and high school students at two of their family properties. One of the properties, Lincoln Mews in Richmond, VA, has been in CAHEC's portfolio for nearly nine years, so it was a natural fit for the CAHEC Foundation to help support this educational initiative.

With the help of many local sponsors, BHC received enough donations to fill over 200 backpacks with necessary school supplies. We are proud to have partners that believe in supporting the youth at our properties, and we wish the best of luck to all students as they take on the 2018-2019 school year.

After 15 years of dedicated service, Kim Kimbrell, VP, Fund Management, has announced his retirement. Dana Boole, President & CEO of CAHEC, shared that "Kim's leadership, intuitiveness, and perseverance transformed the Fund Management department into an innovative and high performing team. He has positioned them - and our entire organization - for long term success and, for that reason, I am so appreciative of all Kim accomplished during his tenure."

Kim's impact on CAHEC has been significant.  He has helped foster our ongoing growth with his creative thinking and exceptional leadership.  We wish Kim well as he heads into retirement life, which we are sure will include many days outside bike riding, hiking, and traveling to national parks across the country.

Please join us in thanking Kim for his numerous contributions to CAHEC and the affordable housing industry.

Hurricane season for our footprint has officially started, and we want to ensure our partners know the CAHEC Foundation is here to help. Any CAHEC-sponsored LIHTC property that experiences an unexpected disaster is eligible to apply for up to $3,000 through our  Disaster Relief Initiative that financially assists with providing resources - like food, water, and shelter - to residents during a time of crisis.

MIAMission in Action
  • A big thank you to Suntrust Community Capital for their recent donation to the CAHEC Foundation! Their funding will help us continue offering life-changing wellness and education opportunities to residents throughout our footprint.

  • The CAHEC Foundation recently donated over $40,000 to various food banks throughout our footprint. By supporting school food pantries, backpack and summer feeding, and general childhood nutrition initiatives, our funding will provide over 80,000 healthy meals to youth and young adults in our communities!
  • If you're attending the NASLEF conference in Boston, MA, later this month, you may see some familiar CAHEC faces on a few panels.
