Document Your Hearing Screening Learning Activities with
Certificates of Completion
Whether you are acquiring new skills to conduct hearing screening, or refreshing your existing proficiency
, we'd like to remind you that you can document your training time and efforts by receiving Certificates of Completion. These Certificates are available to screeners who are gearing up to provide Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) or Pure Tone screening services to young children.
The process for obtaining Certificates is the same for each screening method. Simply visit
KidsHearing.org and then go onto the
OAE or the
Pure Tone page. From there, you will see that the Video Tutorial Modules are divided into four self-guided Learning Sessions.
Session 1: Introductory Overview
Session 2: The Screening Procedure
Session 3: Screening Young Children
Session 4: Follow-up, Documentation and Tracking
If you are new to hearing screening, you'll want to check that you have functional screening equipment and, if possible, also identify a local pediatric audiologist or other individual with experience conducting screening with young children who can assist you in your learning process.
Although the modules are designed for self-guided learning, having "live" hands-on assistance, especially for the exercises outlined in Sessions 2 and 3, will help you build your capacity and confidence. Individuals who are new to hearing screening should plan to sequentially complete all four Learning Sessions.
if you are working in a setting where there is already a strong hearing screening program in place, and you are returning to the resources to brush up on
your screening skills, you may choose to focus your time on Learning Sessions 2 and 3. If you are also in the position of conducting follow-up with children who do not p
ass the initial screening, reviewing the materials in Session 4 will help you take the correct "next step" in the hearing screening process
.
Whether you are completing the entire series or only selected Learning Sessions, you will see that within each Session there are three types of activities in which you will:
- View a set of Video Tutorial Modules.
- Complete a Hands-on Practice Exercise.
-
Complete a brief, online Report to receive a Certificate of Completion which
will be emailed to you after submission of each Report. As you complete each Report, you will also see that there is a field where you can opt to enter a supervisor's name if you wish a copy of the Certificate to also go to that individual. If you complete Sessions 1 - 4, an additional final Certificate will also be emailed to you.
As a newly-added aid to help learners who want a more detailed introduction to the Pure Tone training materials, an "on demand" video overview will walk you through how to locate and use resources on the Pure Tone page to engage in the learning process.
