Feeling Settled in Yet?

Parents, pat yourselves on the back for making it through the start of the school year. Maybe some lunches were forgotten or there was a bike crash here or there -- it's not always pretty getting back into a routine! But, the kids seem settled in and excited for another great year at Hubbard Woods. Another shout-out to our Back-to-School and New Family Committee Chairs, for making sure all families, new and old, felt welcome!

Hopefully you've had the chance to meet some of the wonderful new staff members at HW. Our kids are in such great hands! In this letter, you'll see a few more new faces to get to know. One great way to get to meet staff, is to volunteer in the lunchroom, to help with recycling and composting! Click here for that opportunity. I was in there recently, and it's pretty amazing to see how much of the packaging and uneaten food the kids sort into compost or recycling, reducing the landfill trash! Thank you again to new HW parent, Elizabeth Leonard, for Co-Chairing our Green Team Committee.

When you attend Go-to-School Night this week (9/27 for kindergarten parents), we hope you'll sign-up for the jobs in your child's classroom. For example, each class needs a parent to take photos throughout the year, to make our PTO parent-produced yearbook.

In addition to class-specific jobs, the PTO still has plenty of room on our committees. Please click here and take a look at all of the fun opportunities to say, "Yes!" and support our amazing little school! And, if you need more convincing on donating your time,
click here to read a recent WSJ article about the added benefits our kids receive when parents volunteer at school.

If you have any questions about the PTO or how you can help at HW, please reach out!
For new families (or any parent who wants a refresher course!), the October 3rd (7pm) HW Orientation is a great opportunity to learn more about the school, progressive ed, the district's Future Ready master planning initiative -- and the PTO. This event takes the place of last year's Vision and Views, which was held on a weekday morning.

In the meantime, enjoy this great walk-to-school season and please let us know any feedback: [email protected]

Please contact Elizabeth Leonard at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity.
A Green Reminder
Please turn off your car engines while waiting in the school drop-off and pick-up lines. Especially at the main entrance, car exhaust collects near the front door and gets sucked inside. We can reduce this hazy, toxic air by honoring our school's year-round policy of NO IDLING in car line. Thank you for doing the right thing and turning off your engines.

Directory

The Online Directory is Now Available!

We are excited to announce that the 2018-2019 Winnetka Elementary Schools Directory is now available to those who have paid for access! If you have not yet paid for access ($5 fee), please click here to make your payment online -- or make a check out to Hubbard Woods PTO and submit in the school office. If you are not sure if you paid, please contact Asst. Treasurer, Anna Anderson ([email protected]).
If you have already paid,    CLICK HERE  for directions on how to access this year's mobile directory.

If you want to view/change the contact information you submitted during registration, please download the application and review the online directory. All changes must be submitted to Amy Kay ( [email protected]). Please note that only the person you put in as "Parent 1" during registration will get access. If you need to add an additional family member, please contact Amy. Lastly, if you have children at Skokie or Washburne, access to that directory is paid for separately through the Skokie-Washburn PTO.

Helpful Tips
  • If you would like to print the directory (you can print class, families and individual school lists ), please   click here  for directions.
  • We now have a combined Winnetka Elementary School Directory including students from Crow Island, Hubbard Woods and Greeley in one directory.
  • On the teacher tab, you will notice each teacher is identified with a CI, HW or GR before their name, allowing you to distinguish between the schools.
  • On the Families tab you will notice each family name is followed by either CI, GR, HW or CI/GR, CI/HW.  This lets you know which school(s) the students in that family attend.
  • The calendar tab across the bottom of your mobile screen displays the district calendar.
  • On the family tab you will notice that the individual schools are listed at the top. This contains the main school number and the nurse's number as well as a link to the PTO website.
Techie Trick
Did you know you can text directly from a student's listing? Simply hold your finger over the number until the menu pops up and select send message.
