Greetings,
While it is always hard to see summer end, fall in these parts is spectacular, too. This is also the time of year when publishers release many new titles in anticipation of the holiday season. The big title so far is the long awaited sequel to
The Handmaid’s Tale
by Margaret Atwood,
The Testaments
. As expected,
The Testaments
is getting great reviews, including by the
Boston Globe
which said it is, “Powerful, revealing, and engaging.”
We are also excited about Ta-Nehisi Coates’ new book,
The Water Dancer
. This is already an Oprah’s Book Club pick and also a Northshire Staff Pick. Our own Alden Graves says, “Coates constantly reminds us that man's capacity for inflicting cruelty is only surpassed by the indomitable will and determination of the victims of that inhumanity to triumph over it.”
Another favorite, Alice Hoffman will be coming to Northshire Saratoga on October 19th! Tickets
here
. Her new novel is
The World That We Knew
. Elizabeth Strout - whose sequel to
Olive Kitteridge
will soon be out - had this to say about
The World That We Knew
, “Oh, what a book this is! Hoffman’s exploration of the world of good and evil, and the constant contest between them, is unflinching; and the humanity she brings to us—it is a glorious experience.” You might remember Hoffman from her best-seller,
The Dovekeepers
,
as well as many others.
And these titles are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg - we invite you to come into our stores and explore. We encourage discovery and serendipity and look forward to seeing you.
Happy Reading,
Chris Morrow

In his first and only official autobiography, music icon Elton John reveals the truth about his extraordinary life, from his rollercoaster lifestyle as shown in the film
Rocketman
, to becoming a living legend.
Christened Reginald Dwight, he was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star. By the age of twenty-three he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt, and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.
His life has been full of drama, from the early rejection of his work with song-writing partner Bernie Taupin to spinning out of control as a chart-topping superstar; from half-heartedly trying to drown himself in his LA swimming pool to disco-dancing with Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth; from friendships with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael to setting up his AIDS Foundation to conquering Broadway with
Aida
,
The Lion King
, and
Billy Elliot the Musical
. All the while Elton was hiding a drug addiction that would grip him for over a decade.
In
Me
, Elton also writes powerfully about getting clean and changing his life, about finding love with David Furnish and becoming a father. In a voice that is warm, humble, and open, this is Elton on his music and his relationships, his passions and his mistakes. This is a story that will stay with you by a living legend.

From the
New York Times
bestselling author of
The Night Circus,
a timeless love story set in a secret underground world—a place of pirates, painters, lovers, liars, and ships that sail upon a starless sea.
Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues—a bee, a key, and a sword—that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library hidden far below the surface of the earth. What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians—it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also of those who are intent on its destruction. Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome, barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose—in both the mysterious book and in his own life.
