SAUSD CELEBRATES WALK TO SCHOOL DAY 2019
The Santa Ana Unified School District celebrated International Walk to School Day this week with a special community procession and districtwide assembly at Lincoln Elementary School, to bring awareness to the importance of practicing safe walking, biking, and traffic skills. 2 SAUSD EMPLOYEES NAMED ‘COACHES OF CHARACTER’
Joseph Tagaloa from Segerstrom High School and Tara Cozens from Santa Ana Valley High School have been named Coaches of Character by the Orange County Athletic Directors Association. The two were among other Orange County coaches recognized during the OCADA Fall Awards Dinner, held Sept. 30, 2019 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
SAUSD HOLDS ANNUAL FAMILY & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CONFERENCE 
More than 1,100 people attended the District’s annual Family & Community Engagement (FACE) conference, held Sept. 28, 2019 at Santa Ana High School. The day included numerous workshops, a resource fair, a school choice fair, entertainment by Santa Ana High School musicians and ballet folklorico dancers and more. For photos, click here .

SAUSD REPRESENTED AT SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL LEARNING EXCHANGE
Representatives of SAUSD and NWEA, an assessment nonprofit, are in Chicago this week for the Social and Emotional Learning Exchange conference, hosted by The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL). They are presenting a session on how school districts and researchers can come together to address pressing questions around how to best support students’ social-emotional development.
SAUSD COUNSELORS PRESENT AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE 
A delegation of SAUSD School Counselors recently presented at the American School Counselor Association's national conference in Boston. Brandi Augenstein (District Office) and MJ Hegardt (Romero-Cruz Academy) presented on creating engaging lessons and Laurie Tristan (MacArthur) and Christine Silva (MacArthur) presented on creating a school-wide college/career program. This was a great opportunity to highlight at a national level the effective programs led by SAUSD School Counselors.

FOX11 PROFILES DISTRICT SAFETY OFFICER VINCENT GONZALES
In case you missed it, FOX11 recently profiled Vincent Gonzales, a District Safety Officer at Santa Ana High School, as part of its School Standouts series. He “goes above and beyond the call of duty,” the story says. “He is the first person the kids see when they come to school in the morning and the last person they see at night. There’s no job too big or too small for Gonzales.” To watch the video, click here .
