Greetings Eagles!
October was so much fun! It was a month packed with excitement for our scholars. Just in October we took fall pictures, attended our 1st Learning Lab, hosted Red Ribbon Week, had an incredible Book Fair, Character Day Parade, Fall Dance, All A Honor Roll Breakfast with the Principal, SLEDS, and a Perfect Attendance Sock Hop!
As a 2nd year principal, one of my goals is to work on communication and getting to know my Channelview RSPA families. I enjoyed hosting a “Coffee and Conversation with the Principal”. I personally enjoyed meeting each one of you! Thanks again for the special party you guys hosted for me on Boss’s Day and for supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. The schoolwide “Pink Out” was so special. I can’t thank you enough for your support as I fight this major battle in my life. I will continue to strengthen my communication with you by being visible and accessible when you need me. Let's continue our great partnership to ensure our scholars will be successful.
November is the month that always reminds us to be thankful. This year I am a different kind of thankful. I’m usually grateful for the week off with family, the delicious Thanksgiving dinner, or Black Friday shopping days. This year, I am thankful for life, health, my job, and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of each family that is a part of the Rhodes School for the Performing Arts. Thank you for supporting me and continually trusting me to lead the growth and development of your scholars.
I’m looking forward to seeing each of you at our upcoming November events. We have our Science Fair, PTC Meeting, and our Annual Thanksgiving Family Luncheon.
I am also extremely thankful for each of my terrific teachers. They have worked extremely hard this year to ensure your children are safe and learning at high levels. Our teachers have committed to morning crew lessons and using Restorative Discipline Practices. Class Dojo was also reinstated as another form of communication between parents and teachers. I’d like to give a shout out to our October “Teacher of the Month” Mr. Ryan Shanklin. Mr. Shanklin is our 4th/5th grade, Science teacher. He is also the director of our boys’ step team “The SWAG BOYS”. Thanks for giving RSPA CV 100%, Mr. Shanklin!
Last, I am grateful for each of our scholars from Pre-K to 5th grade. Our scholars bring their smiles, hugs, and brains, ready to love and learn each day. I feel I have the most rewarding profession ever because I get to spend quality time growing our scholars into productive citizens of the 21st century.

Thanks for all that you do,

Tonya McBride, M. Ed.

Arrival
Parents please be mindful of our fellow scholars and parents. Although the parking lot is crowded, after 7:45 you must park and walk your scholar in. Drop off at the front building is reserved for Pre K and Crayon Club.

Dismissal
We have worked very hard on our dismissal process. Pre K will dismiss from the front where Crayon Club resides. Regular car riders will be dismissed from the back. Every student that rides the bus has been color coded according to the route they ride. If your scholar rides the shuttle to the Northshore Campus, please remember that is a bus stop. You MUST be there on time at 3:45 to pick up your child. Any child 1st grade or below still remaining by 4:00 will be taken back to Channelview to the Crayon Club for a drop in fee of $25.00. Please pick up by 1:20 on (early dismissal) Friday’s. At 1:30, your child will be taken back to the CV campus.

Dress Code
Scholars should always come to school in dress code. Oxford shirts are the ONLY shirts allowed. Starting October 1st, scholars will be asked to return home if they are not in dress code. Spirit or college shirts are allowed on Fridays. We will announce any special dress days ahead of time so your scholars can dress to impress.

Campus Visitors
All visitors must sign-in in the front office before being allowed into the hallways and cafeteria.  Please refrain from picking your scholars up early. They are missing instructional time.
