Tie-Dye Fun

Secondary students invited elementary students to campus Friday afternoon for a tie-dye event. With the older students' help, groups of elementary students created their own tie-dye shirts. While one group worked, the rest of the students played court sports together.

Part of Lake Pointe's unique student life allows  kindergarten through 6th grade   students to regularly have opportunities to interact and become friends with secondary students. As a reciprocal effect, 7th through 12th grade students have the opportunity to serve their younger counterparts and their parents and exercise Christ's command to love the least of us.

Picture Packets Went Home
Student photo packets went home Thursday and Friday. Every student should have received one; elementary students were sent home in folders and secondary students were handed out at connection assembly. Inside the envelopes are students IDs for the 2018-2019 school year. If your student was absent, be sure to come by the front desk to collect the envelope.

School pictures are now available to purchase online. Visit mylifetouch.com, use Lake Pointe's picture day ID (NR048009Q0) and search for your student's name.

In and around the classrooms

Edible Spines
Science is more fun when you can eat your lesson! The second graders would highly agree, as they munched on their edible spines. As part of their anatomy lessons, the students learned about the spinal cord, the vertebrae, and the importance of a spine.

Bucket of Spuds
When the potatoes were dumped on the tile floor, wide-eyed students cautiously backed away. Ms. O'Leary used the morning gathering time this week to tell a story of hospitality from her recent mission trip. Those she visited offered their plastic buckets as seats so they could have a conversation about Jesus, pouring their vegetables on the ground in their eagerness to provide comfortable chairs.

The Difference History Can Make
History 8 students and Mrs. Brewer discussed the effects of post-revolution France, Napoleon's bold claims to power, and how the U.S. got Louisiana (and over a dozen other states) for pennies on the acre. Elvis might have been born in New Hampshire had it not been for this shrewd purchasing.

Students Serve Morningside Assisted Living
Satan can seek to amplify the awkwardness felt by teens when around senior citizens. It is a product of modern separation into same age peer groups and the deterioration of the close extended family. So, it was heartwarming to have LPA's largest group ever to bless and serve the residents of Morningside Assisted Living. Students led and sang hymns and resident requests and some students played piano.

Cross Country
The cross country team went "across the country" to Chester High for a meet  Thursday . Amazingly, middle-schoolers Shawn Lewin and Caleb Brewer placed in the top ten finishers in the high school race.  Other runners also did well, chipping away at their goals and personal best run times.

Volleyball
For a much closer trip, the girls' volleyball teams were hosted by nearby York Prep. While the Lady Mariners lost to the much larger charter school, the games were highly competitive and served to accomplish Athletic Director Bill Spratley's goals to schedule challenging local, out of conference matches to supplement LPA's league schedule. The volleyball teams carry a 1-0 conference record into  Friday  night's match against Greenville's Bob Jones Academy, a much larger school and conference competitor.

Soccer
The boys' soccer team carries an undefeated fall record into  Friday  night's home match against conference powerhouse, Bob Jones Academy. The game will be a strong test of the Mariners' skills and strategies.
