SOCIAL MEDIA TASK FORCE
We Need Your Help!

UMCE's Church Council has commissioned a Social Media Task Force to examine and make concrete recommendations on how we may improve  (1) our outreach to the foothills community to tell them about our great church family, and  (2) our "inreach" to better communicate and connect with our past, present and future church family.

This may take the form of updating our UMCE website and online social media presence (Facebook, etc.), streaming or posting online sermons or parts of Sunday and other special services, establishing a dedicated audio and video broadcast to Fellowship Hall to allow for overflow at highly attended services (such as funerals) and other uses such as family Movie Night.

If you have experience or knowledge in design, marketing or technical  areas needed for this task force and would like to be part of its work, please contact Bill Graf by phone 303-246-8330 or email [email protected] .

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

Ministry Jottings: No Statues to Critics

"Rejoice and be glad, because great is our reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." -Matthew 5:12

It was built for an international exposition about 130 years ago and called "monstrous" by both critics and citizens. They loudly demanded the structure be torn down as soon as the exposition closed. Yet from the moment its architect first conceived the structure, he took pride in it and loyally defended it. He knew it was destined for greatness. Today it stands as one of the architectural wonders of the modern world. It has become the primary landmark of Paris, France. The architect was Alexander Gustave Eiffel, and his famous structure - the Eiffel Tower.

Jesus Christ was loyal to another structure - the Church. He entrusted the building of the Church to an unlikely band of disciples, whom He defended, prayed for and prepared to take the Gospel to the corners of the world. To outsiders, the disciples of Jesus probably had a reputation as ignorant, politically weak, religiously untrained, disorganized, and in moments, blundering idiots.

Being a Christian has never been "politically correct." There has been much criticism through the years. In spite of criticism, we are instructed to carry on. We are to persist in building the body of Christ. The Finnish composer Jean Sibelius once consoled a young musician who had received a bad review by saying, "Remember, son, there is no city in the world where they have erected a statue to a critic." No matter what comes your way today, be proud you are a member of Jesus' Church!

In Christ's grace,
Pastor Deb

ADULT EDUCATION

Sunday, September 9: No Session: Fall Festival

Month of September:
Social Principles of the United Methodist Church
In the month of September, we will explore three of The Social Principles of the United Methodist Church, which are adopted every four years and are contained in the Book of Discipline. They connect the United Methodist Church as we express our faith in collaborative practice and our aspirations for the common good in our public policies and personal commitments. Through them, we seek to love God with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength and to desire for our neighbors what we desire for ourselves.

Sunday, September 16 from 9:30-10:20 am
Social Principles of the United Methodist Church:
The Nurturing Community and Confronting Bullying
Facilitators: Ann Gerteis and Donna Mullins
In Adult Education, we continue to study the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church, The Nurturing Community.  We will be discussing one aspect of a Nurturing Community, bullying, which has been identified as a growing societal problem. The United Methodist Church of Evergreen Bulletin states: "We affirm a spirit of openness and hospitality to all, including persons of all races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, financial strata, and abilities who seek a closer walk with God.  Jesus turned no one away and neither will we." Come join us to explore current information about bullying.  Have you ever been bullied? Has your child ever been bullied? Do you know a bully? How can you help the person being bullied? How can you help the bully? What role can our church play in combating bullying and fulfilling our church bulletin statement?
