Child Abuse May Lead to Early Puberty

New research establishes that child abuse can influence physical development as well as psychological maturity.
Pennsylvania State University investigators discovered young girls who are exposed to sexual abuse are likely to physically mature and hit puberty earlier than non-abused peers.
While it has long been known that maltreatment can affect a child's psychological development, the new study shows that the stress of abuse can impact the physical growth and maturation of adolescents as well.

Special Ed Funding Maintained in Trump Budget Blueprint
|

The "skinny" budget blueprint released by the Trump administration Thursday would maintain current spending levels for special education-about $13 billion, most of which is money sent directly to states.
The budget blueprint is just the beginning of a long process.
While this document shows the administration's priorities, it is Congress that ultimately passes spending legislation. And lawmakers have their own ideas about what programs should be cut, and which should be kept.

Amazing Technology Enables Quadriplegic Man to Move his Limbs

A new study showcases a man with quadriplegia who has managed to move his arms and hands using the new technology.

Studying the Brain's Suspension System in TBIs

Traumatic brain injury, or TBI, can be devastating and debilitating. Despite intense interest and years of study, the exact mechanisms linking force and neurological injury remain unclear. Researchers know that the membranes separating the skull from the brain play a key role in absorbing shock and preventing damage caused during a head impact, but the details remain largely mysterious.

Stem Cells Show Promise For Treating Autism

A small, but promising study suggests that stem cells from a child's own cord blood may offer an effective treatment for autism symptoms.
Most children on the spectrum who received an infusion from their own umbilical cord blood showed improvements in behavior, communication and socialization, among other measures, while experiencing no significant downsides from the treatment.

| A Mother's Voice May Help Stabilize Preterm Infants |

A recent review of published research indicates that hearing their mother's voice can benefit the health of preterm infants.
The review included 15 studies with 512 infants from 2000 to 2015. Hearing the maternal voice, either recorded or live, was linked with the physiologic and behavioral stabilization of preterm infants with fewer cardiorespiratory events. There is insufficient evidence to evaluate long-term effects, however.

Speech-Language Pathologist needed full time at a year round school! Our client services students up to age 22 in an outpatient clinic environment as well as a therapeutic day school. This is a year round program with nine classrooms.
You will be part of a collaborative teaching team for two classrooms including a BCBA, OT, and LBS1 Teacher. Case load of 16 students. Classrooms cap at 8 students. There are 6-8 Instructional Assistants per classroom.
