Canopy had a lot to celebrate last month! Susan Rosenberg, Co-Founder and current Board Member, and  Uriel Hernandez, Community Forestry Coordinator, were both honored with prestigious awards for their work growing greener, healthier communities.
Susan was presented with a Community Champion distinction from Senator Jerry Hill for decades of growing the urban forest, and for her recent work on the City's Storm Drain Blue Ribbon Committee. Uriel received the  Local Hero "Youth Engagement" award from Bay Nature for his leadership and commitment to greening East Palo Alto through Canopy's Branching Out initiative.

Arbor Day Festival fun draws crowds and features teen voices

Over 750 community members joined the festivities at Mitchell Park on March 11 to explore and celebrate trees during California Arbor Week.
A huge "thank you!" to everyone who came out, especially to our incredible volunteers, and to our wonderful partners and sponsors.

Legacy of Trees Planting

Volunteers plant a "legacy of trees" during Cubberley Community Day

On March 25, 60+ volunteers came out to plant trees at Cubberley Community Center as part of the annual Cubberley Community Day, spearheaded by Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto and City of Palo Alto.
It was a fun-filled day of performances, kids activities, tasty treats, and open studios. Canopy's contribution was a community tree-planting. With the help of volunteers and planting leaders, we planted 50 native landscape plants and 17 new trees, including 12 beautifully budding Eastern Redbuds.
This year's planting also had a special theme. It was our first "Legacy of Trees" planting, honoring people in our community who have inspired others to give the gift of trees.
We were proud to dedicate these new trees to our 2016-2017 Tree Gift honorees. Their living legacy is now a vibrant urban forest for generations to come, and a greener future for all of us.
