October 2019
Greetings!

Here's the latest information about things going on in the Borough of Pompton Lakes this month, assembled and produced by the Public Information Department.
Mayor Serra's Message
As Fall approaches and leaf season begins, I would remind all residents to refer to the Garbage and Leaf Schedule in the Town Calendar. Please note the pick-up schedule will vary, so therefore, you should check the schedule posted in the calendar.

Redevelopment projects are moving forward and the Luxury Apartment Complex located on the corner of Colfax and Lakeside Avenues are targeted to be completed by December. If you are interested in renting an apartment or additional information contact Pat at 973-888-3352.

I would encourage residents and those who visit our community to shop local and experience the many businesses, restaurants/eateries, specialty shops and professional services our town has to offer. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants/eateries, take in show at the theater, enjoy some time at one of the local salons and spa, children can experience various activities or shop throughout our great Town. When we shop in Town everyone wins as this helps the local merchants prosper and in turn we have a thriving and viable shopping community. A benefit to our business district is our local Chamber of Commerce that is actively involved in supporting the community by promoting businesses and services to ensure their growth and prosperity.

Some upcoming events include Fire Prevention Week Open House occurs on October 7, 2019 at 6:00 pm at the Fire House; Chamber of Commerce Car Show held on October 13 th ; Halloween Hunt held on October 20 th at 7:00pm at Hershfield Park. I would encourage residents to attend and support these events.

In closing, I would like to wish all residents an enjoyable and safe Fall Season.

Until next time,

Mayor Michael Serra

Borough Clerk's Office
The Borough Clerk’s office assists with managing outreach communications within the Borough.

The Borough of Pompton Lakes continually provides outreach and communication in an effort to connect the Governing Body with its citizens. The Borough utilizes various technologies to engage with the community through the Borough’s website, broadcasting channel PLTV77, Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and the Town Calendar. These forms of online engagement provide increased knowledge, transparency, access, and enable greater levels of resident participation.

In June of 2017, the Borough’s website was upgraded and now provides the public with user-friendly access for the following; online payments, signing up for emergency notifications, viewing borough maps, recording of borough meetings, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, public bids, employment opportunities, forms and financial information. The public has the ability to report an issue or submit a request for assistance, and to view the latest Borough news and events. The Community Calendar catalogs and manages upcoming meeting dates, events and announcements providing community interaction.

Channel cable PLTV77 broadcasts the Borough Council Meetings, informational presentations, bulletins that include municipal, county, state information along with civic community news. WGHT 1500, the Borough’s Local AM Radio Station, is once again broadcasting local news, music and talk radio from dawn to dusk, and will eventually be licensed to broadcast on FM.

The Borough recognized the need to communicate through technology/social media and launched the Borough Facebook page this year!  Facebook affords residents updates and informs of Borough activity, and provides calendar events for them to easily plan for event tracking and attendance. The Digital Newsletter is also available to residents on line and captures hometown news.

In addition to all of the above resources, a Town Calendar, which contains important Pompton lakes information, is mailed to all residents and posted on the Borough’s website.

Pompton Lakes Police Department
Community ShareCam Program
Community Share Cam is a community safety program instituted by the Pompton Lakes Police Department which allows both residents and businesses to partner with the PLPD in the fight against crime throughout the Borough. Simply by registering YOUR home or business surveillance system with the Pompton Lakes Police, YOU can be an invaluable asset in solving crimes in your neighborhood.
When a crime occurs in your neighborhood, the Pompton Lakes Police will call on YOU and request a copy of YOUR video footage. This footage will help establish leads, identify suspects and save valuable investigative time. All registered camera locations are stored in a secure database and are entered into our Records Management System allowing the PLPD to map out locations of cameras throughout the Borough. Community ShareCam DOES NOT provide the Pompton Lakes Police with direct access to YOUR surveillance system. Residents and businesses will only be contacted by the PLPD in the event of a crime occurring in the area of your camera coverage.

Open House
Join us at the firehouse on Monday, October 7, at 6 PM for our OPEN HOUSE for Fire Prevention Week. Learn about fire prevention, see the fire engines and trucks, enter the fire safety house, and meet our mascot. Light refreshments served. Fun for all ages.
Reminder from the Fire Department:

Your House Number Visible and Displayed Correctly????

Think of this scenario, there's an emergency at your house. You dial 911 and speak to the dispatcher. However, it seems like it's taking a long time for help to arrive.

Meanwhile, Fire and police have arrived on your street but they're having problems finding your house. The house doesn't have any easily identifiable numbers on it and the mailbox is blocked by trees
Seconds Count in an Emergency:
  • Protect your family and your property by having large visible house numbers.
  • Firefighters, police officers, and EMT's find you faster when your home is properly marked.
  • A visitor, child or injured person may be unable to give clear directions.
  • Emergency personnel from a neighboring community may be unfamiliar with your area. Use Large Visible Numbers
  • Numbers need to be at least 4-inches in height and facing the street.
Put the numbers under lighting, and use numbers with a contrasting background, so they will be visible at night.
If your driveway is long, post your house number on both sides of a mailbox or sign pole at the end of the driveway near the road.
• Be sure to keep numbers visible by trimming trees and bushes.
