HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!
Celebration of Life for Mrs. Conde
As many of you know, Mrs. Ellen Conde, much beloved former teacher, passed away on December 30, 2017. Mrs. Conde served Westminster as a lower-school teacher for twenty-eight years (1984-2012), and is loved by generations of Westminster grads who were taught by her, and colleagues who served with her. She was known for her gregarious personality, her ebullient love of life, and her passionate dedication to teaching young minds to read. Her laugh was unmistakable and was frequently heard filling up her classroom and rolling in waves down Westminster's hallways. She loved her students as though they were her own, was demonstratively affectionate toward them, and taught them to read with fluency and deep pleasure. Hundreds of graduates credit her with having given them the gift of reading.

Ellen Conde was a true Griffin! She loved Westminster, protected fiercely the basic tenets that are the foundation of our school, and was always by the side of any one in need. She is one of the great legends of Westminster School and will remain so for many years to come.

A Celebration of Mrs. Conde's life and contributions to Westminster School will take place during the Griffin Soiree on August 3rd. If you would like to express your feelings about Mrs. Conde to her family, we will be happy to gather notes, cards, letters, and emails to give to her family. Please send to the school address or to [email protected].
Mrs. O'Drudy Announces Retirement
After 36 years of devoted service to Westminster School, the legendary Mrs. O'Drudy is retiring. Mrs. O'Drudy has been teaching Latin at Westminster School since 1982. She has shepherded hundreds of students through Westminster, not just by teaching Latin, but by being the matriarch of the Upper School. She has counseled parents, mentored teachers, and served as a loyal and dependable confidante to Mr. Glover and the administrative staff for decades. There will be much more to say about Mrs. O'Drudy in the near future. In the meantime, we ask that any students, graduates, parents, or friends who would like to express their well wishes and gratitude are invited to send cards or letters adressed to: Mrs. O'Drudy Celebration, 3819 Gallows Road, Annandale, VA 22003. Emails are also welcomed and should be sent to [email protected] with a subject line of "Mrs. O'Drudy Celebration." These messages will be gathered and presented to Mrs. O'Drudy at the Griffin Soiree on August 3rd when we will honor her years of service. Please see "Upcoming Events" at the top of the page for details.
