OCTOBER 2018 NEWSLETTER
A Letter from the Chair
Shari Carlozzi, Director of Safety Services at WTI & NWIR Chair

My message this month is short and sweet.

This year has been a tremendous reflection of women supporting and empowering other women. From the growth of NWIR and our increasing number of councils in development, our collective widespread efforts to promote and support women-based industry activities such as the Rutherford House participation in the Girls Build program this past summer, to NWIR expanding our affiliations within and outside of the roofing I ndustry.

NWIR Arizona Council

GAF had a wonderful a hands-on product training and demo for NWiR Arizona Chapter on August 13th. The education was a great adventure for all of our members. It was held at the Elite Roofing Supply yard in Glendale Arizona followed by a wonderful lunch where we all were able to mingle and talk about our experience.

The Tile Roofing Institute hosted an educational meeting at our local ARCA office in Phoenix on September 6th, it helped us learn the fundamentals of clay and concrete tile installation. We received an overview of the minimum standards and options, roofed a couple of table top mock ups with tile and accessories available in the Southwest market, followed by a Q&A discussion over lunch.

Meetings:
  • We will be forming our 2019 board, per NWiR by laws October 10/24 10-11:30 am will be our first board meeting. ALL NWiR members are welcome to attend however only board members will have the ability to vote.

NWIR Connecticut / New York Council
The NWIR-CT/NY Council co-hosted a fundraiser with one of our members, Tammy Strong, and her company, Disaster Restoration Services. A Family Fun Day was held on September 15th to raise money for the Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp located in Connecticut. During the event, we helped "Stuff-A-Truck" with in-kind gifts needed for the camp. It was a beautiful day and we had a great turn-out. Disaster Restoration Services was able to raise almost $6,000 for the Camp, which will allow two additional campers to attend next summer!

NWIR Central PA Council
For our November meeting we wanted to focus on community outreach - so we are going to support an organization called Caitlin's Smiles. Caitlin's Smiles is a non-profit organization that provides arts and craft kits to hospitals and clinics where children wait for lengthy treatments.

We are going to participate in their Volunteer Night at Elizabethtown College - where we'll make greeting cards and craft kids.

Date: November 12
Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: Koons Activity Venue (KAV) in Brossman Commons, 1 Alpha Drive, Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown PA 17022
RSVP: Katie Bicksler ( kbicksler@crsreps.com)

More information on the organization: www.caitlins-smiles.org.

They ask that every attendee brings one box of ziploc baggies (sandwich or snack size). If you can't attend but you would like to still help - they are always looking for these items: Office supplies such as copy paper (of all colors), staplers, staples, notepads and postage stamps would be helpful as well as gift cards for office supply companies.
