President's Message

Greetings to my UPCDA friends and colleagues!

Well, UPCDA 2019-20 is off to great start after 2 lively and very well attended social mixers, along with our first continuing education seminar of the year.   And our membership is booming with 11 new members so far, so keep on inviting your fellow dentist friends!   It's a brand new day at the UPCDA and we're excited to have so many of you join us.

Much thanks to Dr. Jeff Scott for his fantastic presentation on restorative dentistry and establishing yourself as the 'go-to' dentist in your community.   Along with a ton of clinical pearls, one of his key points was developing relationships and great communication with your dental specialists and local dental colleagues.   As our meeting wrapped up Wednesday night, I took a moment to look around at all our UPCDA members talking and catching up with each other... mission accomplished, Dr. Scott!

Don't miss our next continuing education seminar on October 16th covering one of the mandated sessions for licensure renewal - 'Medical Errors' presented by Dr. Nicholas Grimaudo.   Our Medical Errors session will be held at East Lake Woodlands with social hour beginning at 6:00 and meeting promptly starting at 6:45.  And a couple of other housekeeping notes to put on your radar.. our holiday event this year will be a group trip over to the Lightning game Dec 19th vs the Dallas Stars.   Tickets are $75 per person (1 guest allowed) and are VERY limited at 40 total on a first-come, first-serve basis.   Lastly, save the date for February 3rd-4th for our UPCDA group trip to Tallahassee for Dentists' Day on the Hill.   Transportation and lodging is being arranged, and we just need some legislatively motivated members to represent our profession with us at this important advocacy event.

Hope you are having a great month... see you October 16th!

Dr. Jeremy Albert
UPCDA President, 2019-20

EPA Amalgam Recycling Rule

In June 2017, the EPA issued a ruling that would require most dental practices nationwide to install devices called separators to capture dental amalgam waste to prevent its release to sewer systems. The final rule went into effect on July 14, 2017 and dental offices will have until July 14, 2020 to be in full compliance. The ADA believes the new federal regulation represents a fair and reasonable approach. Please see page 13 to view a helpful flowchart outlining this ruling. For more information, visit the ADA's website here.
