5k T-shirt Design Winner Announced When plans for the 5k in November began, planners soon realized that marathon t-shirt design is a critical element in the marathon experience. After brainstorming, the planners decided to present a proposal to the Art Department at Amherst County High School for a T-shirt Design Contest with the winning entry being chosen by the NHN Board of Directors. On September 17, after reviewing several great entries, the Board chose the design of Skylar Morton. Ms. Morton is a senior at ACHS and this year's president of the National Art Honor Society. She is pictured here receiving a Michael's gift card from CEO Garry Friend along with her teacher, Maryellen Barron. Thank you, Ms. Morton, for your quality work! Thank you, Ms. Barron, for your wonderful cooperation in the contest process! We are so grateful to ACHS for their willingness to participate in every way possible to help further the mission of NHN!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors appreciates our community for the many ways they support our mission. Thank you to Waterstone Pizza and Le Mariachi Restaurants for providing meals for MHBC and Ascension Food Kitchens the week of September 16. A shout out to La Caretta for providing the meal for our guests at MHBC on Wednesday, September 25. A huge thank you to Randolph Memorial Baptist for providing the meal for guests at Ascension on Thursday, September 26! Our outreach meals to Amherst Village Apartments have grown to 21.

Service Opportunity

Our Fall Canned Food Drive is coming up on Saturday, October 26, 2019 , 9:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Food Lion stores in Amherst and Madison Heights Amelon Road location . This is an ideal opportunity for our area youth to participate! Contact NHN at 434-660-7837

Volunteer Spotlight

This month's volunteer spotlight is on the volunteer who has yet to join NHN ranks. We can all think of that perfect person from our family, church, neighborhood, or work place who would be a good fit to serve others in our food kitchens, warehouse, or on food pick ups. Let's take it a step further from thinking of that person to asking him or her to come shadow us and catch the vision. We can double our volunteers if each of us get one person to sign up. So many future volunteers are simply waiting for us to ask for their help!
