Embracing Diversity in the Workplace
Managing Member, Charles Bailey, introduced the summer 2019 edition of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia's Defender Newsletter, which focuses on embracing diversity and highlights the work of the Leadership Counsel for Legal Diversity (LCLD). Featured in the Defender is an article written by Member, Suleiman Oko-ogua.
"Diversity shouldn't be a simple page in an employee handbook, or a statement we make on our websites. The goal should never be to just check a box off on a diversity form. Diversity should be a constant conversation around every conference room table. It needs to start with awareness and end with inclusion."

Leadership Council of Legal Diversity Conference
During the last week of September, Jennifer Tully attended the Second Meeting of the 2019 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity in Washington, DC.
This meeting focused on how to have courageous discussions regarding race and bias in the workplace. Presenters included Kori Carew, John Mitchell and Chris De Santis. A reception for the 2019 Fellows and Members was held at the National Portrait Gallery.
Launched in 2011, LCLD's landmark Fellows Program works by identifying high-potential attorneys from diverse backgrounds and setting them on the path to leadership of their organizations. Since then, the Fellows Program has grown to include a vigorous Alumni Program. The LCLD Fellows Program is an ambitious, highly structured training program designed to build relationships and leadership skills
.
During the Fellow year, each honoree embarks on a learning program that includes in-person conferences, training in the fine points of legal practice, peer-group projects to foster collaboration and build relationships and extensive contact with LCLD's top leadership. The goal of the program is to produce a generation of attorneys with strong leadership and relationship skills who are committed to fostering diversity within their individual institutions and the profession at large.

Getting Crabby for a Cause
On September 19, Of Counsel, Justice Brent Benjamin, and Members, David Mincer and Jim Marshall, attended the ninth annual Martinsburg Rotary/ Sunrise Crab Feast at Whitacre Farm.
All proceeds from the Crab Feast benefit Read Berkeley, a program that

2019 Brain Bowl
On September 19, B
ailey & Wyant, PLLC Associates, Sam Bloom and Adam Strider, participated in EnAct Community Action's fourth annual Brain Bowl fundraiser at the Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston. The Brain Bowl is a friendly, team trivia competition organized in a Jeopardy-style format.
Sam and Adam competed against several teams all there for the same cause: to benefit the mission of EnAct Community Action, a
501(c)3
that offers a wide variety of services to low income residents of Clay, Boone, Fayette, Kanawha and Putnam Counties. To learn more about the organization and its work, visit http://enactwv.org/.

Bailey & Wyant Gussies up for the Gala
On September 28, Members, Michael Taylor and David Schumacher, Marketing Director, Laura Hedrick, and Of Counsel, Justice Brent Benjamin, attended the 2019 West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine Gala.
The theme of the gala was "Tropical Nights", which featured exotic flowers, flamingos and food.

Associate, Samuel Bloom Passes WV Bar Exam
Bailey & Wyant, PLLC would like to congratulate our newest Associate, Samuel Bloom, for passing the WV Bar Exam. We wish him well as he begins his career at our firm.

Daniel T. LeMasters is an Associate in Bailey & Wyant, PLLC's Charleston office.
During his studies at the College of Law, Daniel served as an officer and member of the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association. Daniel was a member of the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association's trial competition team as well as the Steptoe & Johnson employment law trail competition team. Daniel also competed in the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association Lugar Cup. In his second year, Daniel was a member of the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association Lugar Cup First Runner-Up Team. In his third year, Daniel was a member of the Marlyn E. Lugar Trial Association Lugar Cup Champion Team.
While in law school, Daniel was a member of the Clinical Law Program. Upon graduating from the College of Law, Daniel was selected as a member of the Order of the Barristers, which is a national honorary organization for effective law school appellate moot court and mock trial.
Since joining Bailey & Wyant in 2012, Daniel has represented clients from across the United States with their West Virginia litigation matters. Daniel has had the pleasure representing clients ranging from major corporations to individuals from his home county of Mineral County, West Virginia. Daniel practices in multiple areas of the law. Daniel prides himself in providing zealous and efficient representation to the clients he works with to obtain results for them.
