November Staff Picks
g
White Bird by R. J. Palacio
"I ask you to read this not as a testament to the power of love and kindness in the face of a historical evil, but as a reminder that the horrors of injustice that mar our newsfeeds can only be defeated by the goodness we find within. As she did for millions in Wonder, Palacio tells a story of such courage, heart, and beauty." - Linda

The Deep by Rivers Solomon (11/5 release)
" In an adaptation of the eponymous song, Rivers Solomon delivers an incredible underwater mythos in a dreamlike tale. Yetu holds the weight of her peoples' history within herself; it is her responsibility to hold their entire generational trauma until The Remembering. Immersive and heart wrenching, Solomon's adaptation of clipping's song has as much depth as it does beauty." - Elisa

Small Business Saturday
Saturday, November 30

November is here, and with it our busiest season - and Small Business Saturday. Thank you for always making it a good day for Cellar Door. This season, however, I ask you to think carefully about how you spend your holiday dollars.

Honestly, it isn't just about shopping small; it's about values. Some companies I choose to give business to - like REI and Chobani - aren't small. But they have shown that they will back up their progressive values with action, both internally and externally, and protect the rights of their workers, not just the CEOs. Still, in the face of growing megastores and monopolies that slowly chip away at the vibrancy of a healthy retail market, local and independent stores are important, too.

This Small Business Saturday, come to Cellar Door, get great book recommendations from our incredible booksellers, check out some other independently-owned shops nearby, and then go grab some food from one of the incredible indie eateries around here. Spend wisely and keep Riverside interesting!

The Riverside Community Players are back again this year to perform a readers' theatre of Dickens's holiday classic,  A Christmas Carol.  This is our store's fan-favorite event of the holiday season, so be sure to reserve your seats early!
