Welcome to the Rev. Deacon Michael Cannon
|
The Rev. Michael Cannon is excited to serve as Associate Rector. Though a South Carolina native, Michael did much of his growing up in South Florida. He is a second-career clergyman, having spent 28 years in business prior to seminary. He earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Washington & Lee University, and a Master's of Divinity from The School of Theology in Sewanee, TN. He comes to St. John's from St. Andrews, Ft. Pierce, where he was Assistant Rector. Deacon Cannon will be ordained to the Priesthood in the near future.
Michael's ministry is centered on responding to God's call for reconciliation through worship, preaching, teaching, and pastoral care, while celebrating the new life we already enjoy in Christ Jesus. Michael is married to Erika, and they have a blended family with four adult children. He and Erika enjoy walking, reading, sports, watching movies, and offering hospitality. In addition to regular clergy duties, his work at St. John's will center on incorporating members and visitors into parish life. |
St. John's Choir Commemorates the Feast of All Souls' and Veterans Day
|
On Sunday, November 10, at 5:00 p.m., St. John's Choir will offer the Requiem of Gabriel Faure, liturgically, to commemorate the feast of All Souls' and Veterans Day. Faure composed the Requiem between 1887 and 1890, and it is the best-known of his large works, with its focus on rest and consolation. The piece premiered in its first version in 1888 at the church of La Madeleine in Paris, where Faure was organist. Faure said of the work "Everything I managed to entertain by religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest." Please join us for this service, and one of the most well-loved of all the settings of the Requiem Mass. |

|

The cost is $25 per person including children. Please mail a check to Kaivon Madani, 5224 Bayshore Blvd, Tampa, FL 33611, or you can pay at the campground. The fee will help cover the cost of the campsite fees, food, firewood, and other needed supplies. Please email kaivonmadani@hotmail.com with questions and to RSVP. Don't miss this popular St. John's tradition! |
St. Andrew's Parish invites you to join them for Choral Evensong for the Solemnity of All Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3. Their guest organist will be our own Simon Morley, and the choir of St. Andrew's will sing Charles Stanford's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in C, the William Smith Preces and Responses, and the anthem will be
Let Us Now Praise Famous Men by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Choral Evensong is one of the quintessential services of the Anglican tradition, and it is a wonderful way to commemorate the feast of All Saints and the faithful departed. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall following the service.
