A Note from the Principal...
Dear Parents,

Next Monday we will be hosting the Fall semester parent-teacher conferences. The conferences will be held with your child’s Math and English teachers. During the conferences teachers will present the first I-ready testing results as well as discuss classroom assignments and lessons that the students have been working on. Teachers will also cite specific accomplishments your child has achieved and areas that need improvement in the coming weeks. These conferences are also your opportunity to ask questions regarding curriculum, grade level, transition plans, academic or social goals, and any other questions or concerns you may have.

Please note that all conferences do have a thirty minute time limit on them. We must ensure that all parents are given sufficient time with their child’s teachers and we want to be respectful of everyone’s schedule. With that, if more time is needed to discuss your child’s progress and challenges, a second conference meeting or conference call can always be arranged. Also, please remember that if you ever have any concerns about curriculum or assignments throughout the school year, feel free to email me or your child's teacher. We are always available to you for questions or concerns. For any social or behavior concerns, Mrs. Ayesha is also available by phone or email.

As a friendly reminder during conference week, we have early dismissal everyday at 12:00 PM, including Friday. On the day of your scheduled conference, your child may stay with Mr. Josh until you are finished meeting with teachers. All other days, students must be picked up at noon as there are no after school activities scheduled. If you have not yet signed up for a conference time please do so at your very earliest convenience.

The teachers and I are very excited to have this opportunity to share with you our experiences with your children. This school year has been extremely successful and we are looking forward to seeing you all next week!

The Positivity Project - Self-Control

This week's social skill is self-control. The students have been learning about different ways to control emotions and feelings and knowing that they can only control themselves and their actions. We also had fun playing BINGO in social activities using the words that represent self-control.

We are asking parents to bring in various sized pumpkins to assist with some upcoming experiments in our classes. In Science, students will roll the pumpkins on different surfaces to enhance their understanding of friction, speed, and velocity. In English, the pumpkins will be used for a writing activity.

The pumpkins can either be dropped off during carpool or in the front office by  Monday, October 21st.
If you and/or your student would like to attend our first Nightrageous event of the 2019-2020 school year, please RSVP by October 21st to Ms. Julianne.
Social Thinking Terms used on Campus...

Sometimes it is helpful for parents to hear the words we use on campus to help students describe their feelings or behaviors. Here are a couple used frequently around campus:

Flexible Thinking - Flexible thinking is being able to adapt our own behaviors in the moment depending on the situation and the people in it. This means we can change our plan, try a different solution to a problem, change what we are thinking or give up what we want based on the group plan. A flexible thinker can also understand what other people say and do based on different points of view or contexts. Flexible thinking is important for learning how to problem solve!

Stuck Thinking - Stuck thinking is being unable to change what we are doing or thinking based on what is happening around us. If we are stuck in our thinking we might have only one way of seeing a problem or situation, or we might follow one rule all the time, no matter where we are or what is happening around us. Stuck thinking makes it difficult for us to think about what people need us to do and how that is different from what we are doing. Stuck thinking also makes it hard to understand or interpret subtle or different meanings in language, and other people’s motives, intentions, etc.
