Greetings, Parents,
The start of school is such an exciting time full of possibility and optimism. Our teachers and administrators have worked hard over the summer to ensure your child has a wonderful school experience. Likewise, you have used the summer months to reconnect with your family and provide your kids with wonderful out-of-school learning opportunities. Your kids are also ready to attack the new year with eagerness and passion. On Thursday, it was fun to watch our kindergartners and our fifth graders enter their school for the first time. The awe and wonder on their faces truly is magical. I want to thank you for your continued partnership and the trust you put in us to do right by your child and family.
This year we will continue to make positive improvements in your child's school. Over the course of the year, you can expect to hear about new instructional methods and improved curriculum in math and English language arts. We seek to better meet the needs of all learners by piloting a co-teaching model of instruction at both schools. We will continue to refine our technology program to ensure we provide our students with the skills they need to be 21st century learners.
Another change you can expect is a greater focus on school safety and security. This year we have implemented a visitor management system at both our schools. Visitors to our schools will be expected to present a driver's license or state ID upon arrival at the school office. Visitors' IDs will be run through the federal/state sex offender and felony offender databases. Presentation of ID will be required for any individual seeking access to the school beyond the office. If you are picking up your child or dropping an item off, you will not need to have your ID run. Once an ID has been run through the system, visitors will be required to wear a printed visitor's badge and the office will hold the ID until you leave the building. It will be returned once the visitor's badge is turned in at the end of the visit. This is one of the ways that we are working to keep our students, staff, and visitors safe in our schools. You can expect to hear more about our safety and security updates in the coming days.
I am sure 2018-19 will be the best year to be an Eagle or a Tiger, and I am excited to take this journey with you.
Have a great weekend,
Superintendent Dave Palzet
