Rappahannock River Crossing project begins

The official kickoff of one of the Fredericksburg area's biggest transportation projects since the express lanes was held yesterday afternoon at the Interstate 95 Welcome Center near Exit 130.

Triple-left turn lanes set to open

Next week, the $21 million project to improve safety and operations at the Exit 130 interchange is reaching another construction milestone with the opening of triple-left turn lanes on Route 3 eastbound to access northbound I-95.

Work begins on Frederick Street Lofts project

Preliminary work began this month on the Frederick Street Lofts project near the downtown train station. The one-story former furniture warehouse was removed to make way for a new residential building. The adjacent former coffee warehouse will be renovated as part of the project. Materials from the furniture warehouse will be reused in the project.

Per diem rates to increase in region

Government per diems in the Fredericksburg area -- the hotel and meal rates the federal government pre-approves for federal travelers -- will go up starting in October. The hotel rate will go from $93 to $94, and the meals increase is $51 to $55. This is important to the Fredericksburg region due to our numerous military travelers.

Community meeting scheduled on U.S. 1 study

VDOT, in partnership with the City of Fredericksburg, is looking at ways to improve the efficiency and safety of the Route 1 corridor from the Falmouth Bridge to Route 3. A public information meeting is scheduled for Monday evening at James Monroe High School.

Community meeting scheduled for stadium

The City of Fredericksburg and Potomac Nationals will hold a community meeting on the proposed multi-purpose stadium at 7 p.m. September 5 at the Dorothy Hart Community Center at 408 Canal Street. This will be an opportunity for the public to weigh in on the proposed stadium project.  

Central Park McDonald's to get a facelift

The Central Park location will lose its '50s theme, including the juke box and black and white photos of old movie stars like James Dean.
UMW freshmen arrive on campus

940 freshmen are expected at UMW for the 2018-19 academic year. Yesterday was arrival day.

Amelia Square honors its past

The development, which is nearing completion, was built on the site of the old Fredericksburg Hardware Store. There is now a small wall and plaque on site telling the history that uses materials salvaged from the store.
