High Reliability Organization Journey Continues


135 members (16.5%) of the Medical Staff have attended an HRO presentation  as part of CMC's journey to becoming a High Reliability Organization. RWJBarnabas Health is on a continuing journey to become a High Reliability Organization (HRO) uniting our health system in a culture of safety to achieve top-tier clinical outcomes to deliver the highest quality care and safest experience for our patients, communities and workforce.

HRO Tools for Safer Communication 
As we continue on our journey to becoming a High Reliability Organization, a list of safety tools learned at HRO presentations can be found on the CMC intranet in the Safety Together Section.

What is SBAR?
SBAR is used to transfer information in a clear and concise manner. SBAR stands for:
Background: What do you know? (medical history, past tests or treatments)
Assessment: What is happening now? (current findings, needs, concerns)
Recommendation: What is next? (recommendation or request for plan of care)
 
Always check to see if either party has any questions.


Adopting a questioning attitude, the team investigated the patient's history with the nursing home and confirmed that the patient did have aneurysm clips. The procedure was cancelled and harm to the patient was adverted.
Medical Staff Attends the Annual Golf Outing


The winning foursome at this year's golf outing were Drs. Christopher Passariello, Robert Bruno, Emad Kamel and Rory Snepar. 

The annual Medical Staff Golf outing was held on August 15 at Metedeconk National Golf Club with 90 golfers in attendance. The tournament was dedicated to Dr. Elmo Samuel, esteemed colleague and good friend, who passed away earlier this year.

  • The Clinical Documentation Team is here to assist the Medical Staff in bridging the gap between the physicians clinical documentation and the coding team
  • Members of the Clinical Documentation Team are available in the Medical Staff Library, Monday through Friday at various hours, to assist you with any questions.

The Nursing Staff sincerely appreciates the generosity of the Medical Staff and their support of continuing education for nurses. At the August nursing education program, 39 nurses attended a diabetes update. The Medical Staff donated two Littman stethoscopes to be offered to the participants. All were entered into a free drawing and the winners were - Baby Milagros Fernandez, RN, 3A and Mike Neilson, RN, Psychiatric Screening.
