The High Tea Luncheon to Celebrate 70 years brought together 75 members, guests, distinguished visitors, and the press! The spirit in the room was one of friendship and enjoyment. Everyone who attended contributed to the success of the tea via their participation and support. The event was definitely a feather in our branch's cap or perhaps a centerpiece hat!
Our party made the cover of Suburban Life newspaper with a story and pictures that continued onto page two. A version of the print article is
available online
.
Our anniversary was celebrated by the Village of Downers Grove. Scroll to the bottom of the newsletter to view the
Proclamation of AAUW week!

At Branch events there will be “piggy banks” for your change. We are again supporting
NCCWSL (National Conference for College Women Student Leaders). Last year, with little effort, we accumulated $250 in support of college women attending a national leadership conference. There will be opportunities throughout the year to support this important leadership conference for young women.
NCCWSL was started in 1983, when representatives from national gender equity organizations saw the need for a leadership space dedicated to empowering collegiate women. Since then AAUW has taken the helm of the conference and NCCWSL has transformed into an essential experience for any woman serious about creating meaningful impact on her campus, mobilizing her community, and preparing for personal and professional success after graduation. Approximately 10,000 women have participated.
NCCWSL is the place for women leaders to be educated about today’s most pressing issues, develop new leadership skills while expanding on current skills, and make lifelong connections with peers across the country.

AAUW PUBLIC POLICY PRIORITIES
|
|
AAUW Public Policy Priorities as adopted in May of 2019 were developed from member input during the fall of 2018 and voted on by the membership last spring. National priorities for action focus on three areas: education and training, economic security, and leadership.
AAUW advocates a strong system of public education with vigorous enforcement of Title IX, increased support for STEM programs, and “increased support for and access to affordable higher education.”
To achieve economic security, AAUW supports pay equity; quality and affordable dependent care and paid family, medical, and sick leave; full reproductive care for women; and protection for “Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from privatization.”
AAUW advocates passage and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and guarantees for civil rights including affirmative action, voting rights, a clean environment, and freedom from acts of violence. AAUW supports the “rights of all immigrants, including a fair and just path to legal status.”
The complete three-page document can be seen
here.
