An Update on Student Safety and Well-being
Last year, as part of our effort to effectively address and combat sexual misconduct, Hotchkiss engaged RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) - an organization that supports sexual assault survivors - to undertake a comprehensive review of the School's education and response mechanisms, including existing policies, protocols, and trainings. Following a [months-long] audit, RAINN provided the School with a report outlining its assessment of current practices and several key recommendations.
Click here to read a summary of the report.
We are gratified that RAINN found the School's policies and procedures to be thoughtfully constructed and aligned with RAINN's best practices. In an effort to strengthen the overall response process, RAINN recommended the creation of a role dedicated to sexual misconduct prevention and response. To that end, the School is pleased to announce that Christy Cooper P'08,'11 has assumed the new role of sexual misconduct prevention and response coordinator.
A Hotchkiss faculty member since 1988, Christy is an effective and sensitive communicator with both students and families. She works collaboratively and diligently with colleagues to assure a safe, open, and inclusive learning, living, and working environment for all members of our community. Previous roles at Hotchkiss have included dean of students, dean of dormitory life, and dean to the Classes of 2004, 2013, and 2018.
Currently dean of the Class of 2021, an instructor in English, the head coach of girls varsity soccer, and a long-serving member of the Community Conduct Council, Christy was appointed to this role because of her integrity, sense of responsibility to our community, and her deep commitment to our students and their well-being. Christy will coordinate Hotchkiss's efforts to prevent and respond to reports of sexual misconduct. As this role develops over the coming year, her duties will also include program planning, monitoring, reporting, education, and training for all members of the School community. RAINN will continue to be engaged and serve as a resource for Christy and the administration to assure the safety of Hotchkiss students.

Admission Seeks Your Help
Our admission team travels to different communities around the United States and the world to engage families in conversations about the boarding school experience. At times, we do this work with our peers in the Ten School Admission Organization, which is a coalition of schools with a shared mission to promote academic excellence, access, and affordability.
We would like your help in identifying families with children who might benefit from learning more about Hotchkiss or other boarding school options. Our ask is simple: Please forward the following link to relatives, friends, or colleagues who you think should attend an event in their community to learn more about these wonderful educational opportunities.
This link
will allow prospective families to view and register for upcoming events in communities around the United States and the world and, in some cases, to schedule interviews with admission officers.
Thank you in advance for your support. Please be in touch with
Erby Mitchell
, dean of admission and financial aid, if you have any questions.
