YANA IS PART OF OUR LIVES
Dear YANA Supporters,
Eight years ago, I attended one of the early YANA gatherings in New York City. I was an executive at a large financial institution considering a career change to mission-driven work, and was looking for resources and guidance. I found it, and more.
Since that meeting, I have transitioned to an Executive Director role with an international nonprofit,
SosteNica
. I joined YANA’s inaugural Board and have been the Treasurer of the organization from its inception. Many of us involved with YANA have been introduced to a variety of challenging, nonprofit board and volunteer roles and have met wonderful, like-minded friends.
Together with these friends, I found a most unexpected opportunity. For the last several years, we’ve been able to help low-income Yale students explore careers in the mission-driven world through the
YANA-Dwight Hall Fellowship
program. Internships are increasingly important experiences. Yet many opportunities in the nonprofit and government sectors are unpaid. This is a significant hurdle for students from low-income families. The Fellowship program provides funding and other supports for these students and is a great example of YANA’s work to “connect, collaborate, and convene for the greater good.”
My initial connection has taken me in many surprising and rewarding directions. It’s been a great ride. I encourage you to get on board.
