25 Years of Fall Fun: Fair Celebrates Milestone Anniversary

This year's Cumming Country Fair & Festival is celebrating a major milestone! This is the 25th year of the event, which has offered tons of family-friendly fun since 1995.

This year's fair kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 3 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 13.

There will be plenty of returning favorites this year, including the James H. Drew Exposition midway with loads of rides, games and carnival eats. Several popular ground acts are also back this year. Among them: Lady Houdini, Cowboy Woody/Tree Man, and Brian Ruth "Master of the Chainsaw." Some new acts this year include King BMX Stunt Show, K-9's in Flight, and Robocars Entertainment. Of course patrons can also check out the Fairgrounds' Heritage Village and Native Indian Village, as well as the North Georgia Petting Zoo every day.

This year's concert lineup includes the Roots & Boots Tour at 8 p.m. on Oct. 8. This triple hitter concert features three dynamos of country music: Aaron Tippin, Collin Raye and Sammy Kershaw. The country hits keep coming at 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 with Colt Ford. Both concerts are included with fair admission and will be held rain or shine under the covered arena.

Fair parking is $5. Admission to the fair is $7 for ages 11 and up; kids 10 and under are FREE. Check out this page for a  list of free or reduced cost admission days. Ride tickets are $1.25 per ticket or 21 tickets for $20, 55 tickets for $50, or 120 tickets for $100. Click here for a list of ride specials
Did you know? The Cumming Country Fair & Festival was originally only six days in length when it began. Over its 25-year history the event has grown and evolved into the 11-day festival we all now know and love!

Fairgrounds' Additions to Make Debut at Fair
Crews have been working hard the past few months on three new additions to the Cumming Fairgrounds, all of which will make their big debut during the fair!

A 117-foot sky bridge was recently installed  over Castleberry Road, connecting Parking Lot C (the large main lot) to a new ticket booth. The bridge will greatly reduce traffic congestion on Castleberry during major Fairgrounds' events while also keeping patrons on foot safe. The bridge is accessed via a 200-foot ramp, which is complete ADA-compliant, making access safe for guests of all ages and mobility levels.

The new stone ticket booth will allow for faster entry to busy events due to its multiple lines that can be separated out for patrons paying with cash, credit cards or those who have purchased advanced tickets.

Finally, members of the Sawnee Association of the Arts (SAA) partnered with local art students and teachers to create a colorful 300-foot long mural. The project's design was created by Mattalyn Mabry and Ashlyn Mote, two Forsyth Central High School freshmen who were in the 8th grade at Otwell Middle when their design was selected this spring, and the design was adapted for the wall by Ashley Mayabb, one of the art teachers at Otwell Middle.

Throughout the summer months, volunteer artists from the SAA and Forsyth Central, Otwell, Riverwatch, and Little Mill Middle helped with painting the background and main features. Over the last two months, a smaller group of artists has met in the evenings and on weekends to paint as much as possible. On Sept. 26, about 100 students and their art teachers from Forsyth Central and North Forsyth High, as well as Otwell, Piney Grove, Liberty, and Little Mill Middle Schools spent most of the school day working on the mural along with SAA volunteers. Work will continue on the mural after the fair, but fair patrons will still be able to enjoy many vibrant representations of Cumming and Forsyth County landmarks.

Scare Fair to Raise Money for American Cancer Society
Get ready for a hauntingly good time this Halloween season at the Cumming Fairgrounds as Relay for Life of Forsyth County presents the first ever Cumming Scare Fair.

This spooky fundraiser for the American Cancer Society will be held on Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. each night.  Come find out what happens after the "Cumming Water Authority" finds a new type of parasite in the local water supply. The toll of this parasite will haunt your nightmares for weeks to come!

Not interested in the scary stuff? No problem! There's also a family-friendly midway area with food trucks, vendors, games and more for all ages to enjoy before, after or in lieu of the haunted attraction.

Tickets to the Scare Fair are $15 for general admission, including entry into the haunted facility and not scary midway area; $5 for admission to the not scary midway only; and $20 for a "fast pass" that allows guests to skip the lines into the haunted facility and not scary midway.

Mayor and "Brandit" Visit Silver City Elementary
As a car enthusiast, Mayor Troy Brumbalow has spent numerous hours restoring vehicles. On Friday, Sept. 26, he got to share one of his favorite restored vehicles with students in the Quest program at Silver City Elementary School. Mayor Brumbalow brought his "Brandit" Trans Am (inspired by the car in the 1977 movie "Smokey and the Bandit") to the school after being invited by School Resource Officer Will McConnell to share his car knowledge with the students. Mayor Brumbalow enjoyed visiting Silver City almost as much the kids seemed to enjoy checking out the Brandit! See more photos from the visit on our Facebook page.
