sometimes confusing and  complex legal system.

Greetings,

A volunteer attorney recently mentioned to me that the case list can seem "intimidating" to some people. Initially I was surprised to hear that, but after thinking about it some more, it makes sense. The case list has a lot of cases that need help, and they cross a lot of different areas of law.

I want to share some information about our volunteers. Only about half of PLC's volunteers take cases in the area in which they practice. One volunteer, a civil litigator, particularly wants to advocate on behalf of transgender clients and so he has worked on a veterans case and an immigration case. Another volunteer was looking for an appellate case, and recently took on a Ninth Circuit immigration appeal, despite never working on an immigration case before.

My point? The reason these attorneys were able to take on these challenging and varied cases is because PLC was supporting them throughout the case. And we do that for anyone who takes on a pro bono case with us; whether it's your first or your fourteenth case, you can always contact PLC staff for support, guidance and encouragement! So, go ahead, take on that mobile home case, that immigration case, or that civil litigation matter; we will be there to back you up.

Sincerely,

Leigh Ferrin
