Affirming the Generosity of Gifts at CPC!
Each person has gifts, talents and abilities that create and nourish life in the Spirit.

On Sunday, September 29, worship will be filled with gratitude to God for the many ways our individual gifts work for the whole of this church and its ministries. The morning will have two parts:
  • A shorter worship service will segue into the Connections Expo in the Fellowship Hall where everyone can learn more about the various opportunities in the ministry areas of CPC.  Sponsored by the Generosity Team, this morning of worship and fellowship encourages each person to explore and discern possibilities of engaging your particular gifts in ministry for CPC.
  • Leaders and participants in the various ministry areas will be on hand to provide information and answer questions.  Plenty of munchies provided by the Kitchen Katz will feed bodies as the ministry information feeds your imagination.
The Elders responsible for the ministry areas offer the following list of gifts that are abounding and needed in the life of Cary Presbyterian:

What are your gifts?  How will you renew, or reconnect, or engage this year?

Where are your gifts in the wide variety on the list at this link ?

Come explore!

Congregational Meeting: Sunday, September 29
The Session has called a Congregational Meeting for Sunday, September 29 to receive and act upon a recommendation from the Nominating Committee to elect Elders and Deacons.  The pictures and biographical information of nominees are provided at this link for your review in preparation for the September 29 meeting.

After many conversations and much discernment Elder Bob Johnson also announced his resignation from the Session at the end of this year.  Bob has long served in multiple capacities at CPC and is a valued leader in the congregation. Increased work demands and attention for his mother who is out of state are priorities which now require increased time and focus.

Upon receiving Bob's news, the Nominating Committee immediately sought to fill the 2-year unexpired term. The Committee is pleased to nominate Craig Hofmeister to that position.  Craig is added to the slate of nominees who will be presented this coming Sunday, September 29 at the congregational meeting.  Craig's bio and picture are included here.
Craig Hofmeister

Craig and his wife Dorothy joined CPC shortly after moving to the area in 2001. Originally from upstate New York, his family were active members of the New Hartford Presbyterian Church and the similar family oriented nature of CPC is what originally drew Craig and Dorothy to join CPC.

Craig has previously served as an elder at CPC and has been active in Buildings and Grounds, Personnel, Ushering, Youth Sunday School, Men's Softball, and ASP over the years. Craig and Dorothy met in college through a mutual friend and have three children; Kylie (20) is a junior at NC State, CJ (17) is a senior at Apex High and Jesse (14) is a freshman at Apex High. The family enjoys camping and boating and spends many weekends traveling for the kids' sports teams.

Craig is a fire protection engineer and is a partner in a small consulting engineering firm. He looks forward to serving on session again and helping with the transition to CPC's new pastor.

Fair Trade Table in Connections Expo

Visit the Fair Trade table in Fellowship Hall during Connections Expo. They will have coffee (ground, whole bean; regular, decaffeinated), tea, chocolate bars, and cocoa. Cash, checks, debit and credit cards welcome.

Christian Faith Formation

Sunday School is for all! Start time is 9:29 am. Classes end after 50 minutes.
  • If you were not able to be here for Kick-off Sunday and want to register children and youth for Sunday School classes, please do so in the Narthex this week and next. After that you must register through the office.
  • Faith Together is a new intergenerational class which meets in the Fellowship Hall annex for adults and children (grades kindergarten or first grade through fifth grade). The class will share food, Bible study, play, and prayer. Our curriculum suggests to those attending this class: please invite another family (part of CPC or not) to attend with you!

Adult Classes
This week: September 22
Adult I meets in the Parlor,
Bible and Beyond offers a study of The History of Christianity, covering the period of the New Testament, in the Library.
Faith & Families is considering Faithful Families, Creating Sacred Moments at Home, in Room 102 (new location), and is now considering its next topic.
Faith Today continues Models of Revelation, led by Dr. Duane Hix. The class is not about the book of Revelation, but about how God is revealed to us, both historically and personally, sometimes without our conscious awareness of it.
All adult Sunday School classes welcome you at any time, are not concerned about entering late or leaving early, and understand if attendance is occasional. We thank you for participating as you are able.

ProFuture Adult Study (from Living the Questions): Coming Tuesday evenings, beginning October 15, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., led by the Rev. Deky Hall.
ProFuture Faith:  The Prodigal Species Comes Home
Having "squandered our inheritance on profligate living," we are a prodigal species.  Industrial civilization and our insatiable appetites have us hurtling toward irreversible consequences - not in some distant future but right now. The good news is it's not too late.  At the intersection of science, spirituality, and sustainability is a deep love of life and a passion for our posterity is a ProFuture Faith. Join eco-theologian, author, and TEDx speaker, Rev. Michael Dowd in a dynamic DVD and internet-based discussion course that bridges the gap between head and heart, science and faith. Participants will be guided on a journey that accepts what is inevitable, avoids what is futile, and be inspired to attend to what is urgent. Come home to reality. Embrace a ProFuture Faith!
Dates:  Tuesday for 8 weeks, Oct 15, 22, 29, Nov 5, 12, 19, Dec 3 and 10.
Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each week (Room 100)

Children in Worship
The story this week is The Creation . This week we move into the Old Testament stories, often using the Desert Box, a favorite of the children.

We would appreciate more leaders. Full training is offered. Children in Worship begins at the same time as sanctuary worship does, concluding during the hymn following the sermon to return to the 'big church' and join the rest of the congregation.
Contact Medora Hix for more information, [email protected].
