American Fidelity Visits
American   Fidelity  Assurance Company representatives will be in the district to provide the yearly employee benefit package review. This review is provided annually to all employees who work 20 hours or more, which include voluntary benefits offered through payroll deduction, plus the benefits of Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan. Open enrollment for ancillary products will begin September 16 and run through October. This is the window of opportunity for employees to change or add  American   Fidelity  products for an effective date of January 1, 2020.

Each employee who qualifies (20 hours or more, double route bus drivers, and part-time retirees) for the 125 benefit program must sign off that they have been given the opportunity to view available products offered. Please know that no one should feel pressured to sign up for any product. This is the only opportunity for individuals who want added insurance to sign up for these benefits/services. The Individual meetings are mandatory to eligible employees in order to keep the district compliant with the legal IRS guidelines.

Specific times in which  American  Fidelity will be in your building/department will be sent to you by your building secretary or supervisor. You will then be able to sign up for a time to review their products.

Board Meeting Recap
At the September 19 Board of Education Meeting the adoption of the agenda and approval of consent items (found on BoardDocs) took place after the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition, President, Todd Wojciechowski, provided a Board Update on upcoming trainings and conferences. One individual, Somer Norman, spoke during the Public Comments section in regards to agenda item 4.02, Review of Policy ADF.

Republic High School freshmen and senior students presented about the newly implemented Freshman Transition program that took place at RHS this school year. The students shared how this initiative, led by 43 senior student ambassadors, created an opportunity for freshmen students to enter their high school career with a clear sense of what to expect, how to navigate the building and an upperclassman mentor to assist them through the year. Freshmen attending the back to school event were assigned a senior student ambassador and experienced a schedule run, had an opportunity to ask questions, view presentations about curriculum, programming and activities.   CLICK HERE to watch their video to learn more.

After the students presented, the monthly MSBA video was viewed.

Administrative presentations were as follows:
  • Dr. Pearce, Mr. Overstreet and Mrs. Bowser presented on the virtual learning opportunities available at RHS.
  • Mr. Perkins presented information regarding the investigation of utilizing Construction Management at Risk (CMAR) to construct a possible new Early Childhood Center and Schofield Elementary gymnasium.
  • Dr. Wistrom provided a monthly update to the Board regarding district finances, DESE updates, MSBA membership and district happenings.
All administrative reports can be found on  BoardDocs.

Discussion items were as follows (details on BoardDocs):
  • Board policies
  • High school curriculum
  • Review of Policy ADF: The board discussed discontinuing the implementation of USDA Smart Snack requirements for food items brought in for celebrations and parties across the district. In addition, they have asked the district to consult with MSBA on updating our current policy to reflect this, which will be on the agenda for the October BOE meeting.
The only item the Board took action upon was the selection of using construction management at risk (as presented earlier) should the district move forward with the construction of a new Early Childhood Center and Schofield gymnasium. Details can be found in  BoardDocs.

The next meeting was set for Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m.
