STUDENT PARKING AND COMMUTING OPTIONS |
Permit Availability Update
The UCSD Parking Office has reached the S permit sales cap. S permits are no longer available on the website. Any additional releases of S permits will be in the form of upgrade offers to D permit holders, using the order of D permit sales to determine the order in which customers are offered upgrades.
partnership with Transportation Services. When you purchase Lyft Shared credits through Transportation Services, you will receive a 20% bonus. Credits will be available for purchase October 1.
Budget Extra Time:
The campus is extremely busy during the first two weeks of the quarter. This can mean congested roadways, more difficulty finding parking or longer wait times for an MTS bus or campus shuttle. Reduce your commute stress by giving yourself plenty of extra time. Thank you for your patience.
You've Got U-Pass:
If you can leave your car at home, you can save money, avoid traffic and parking headaches and reduce your environmental impact. Commuting by bus is easy with the
U-Pass
that is included with your student fees. It provides unlimited rides on
MTS
busses and trolleys and
NCTD
bus service. Students who have paid fall quarterly
registration fees
are eligible for the
Triton U-Pass app
that provides access to all regional mass transit bus and trolley/light rail routes beginning September 13. Watch for your U-Pass email confirmation from MTS/Moovel with links to download the smartphone app and instructions to create your account with your @ucsd.edu address. After you create your account, it may take up to two hours for your ticket to appear in the app. If you do not have a smartphone,
an alternative format (sticker) pass is available
. Learn more at
U-Pass.ucsd.edu
.
S Permit Sales Cap:
To improve student parking predictability, we capped central campus S permit sales at 900 permits for single-occupancy vehicle commuters and 250 permits for carpoolers and closed loopholes that allowed visitors and contractors to park in S spaces. The price of a quarterly S permit has also increased by $45 to $240/quarter. Proceeds from the S permit increase will fund a two-year rate freeze for the new D lots ($195/quarter, $4/day) at
P703
,
P704
and
P705
, along with our super saver lots at
P782
and
P386 (Gliderport)
(just $3/day in the
Parkmobile
app).
Weekend Parking Changes:
To help fund maintenance of existing parking facilities and build new parking, UC San Diego is transitioning to paid weekend parking starting November 2. Students who already purchase quarterly or annual parking permits will not experience any change.
Others should review the details of the weekend parking program.
Students who don't purchase a weekday or night and weekend parking permit can still access the campus for little or no cost, depending on parking frequency and location.
Triton Rides and Safety Escorts:
The police department employs only UC San Diego students as Community Service Officers (CSO) who provide many safety-related services, including year-round campus safety escorts and Triton Rides, a free nighttime shuttle service. UC San Diego students, staff and faculty can request an escort from sunset to 4 a.m. or a ride from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
