Author! Author! Full Line-up Announced
The Deschutes Public Library Foundation is pleased to announce the full line-up for Author! Author! 2020.  This season the popular literary series makes the move to focus on three bestselling authors, with all three presenting at the Bend High School Auditorium in the first three months of 2020:
 - Barry Lopez | January 23
 - Susan Orlean | February 19
 - Michael Pollan | March 4
Learn more about the authors and the full series here. Season tickets are on sale starting October 1 on the Foundation's website. Individual tickets are on sale October 22. The Author! Author! literary series is a fundraiser for the Public Library Foundation, which supports library programs and services that are not paid for with tax dollars.
Telling Your Story though the Taiko Drum
Taiko (Japanese drumming) is an energetic fusion of sound, movement, and spirit, and has been a loud and proud voice used to help express stories of identity and cultural heritage. Join a workshop that intersperses history with taiko demonstrations and dynamic hands-on participation. Through a rhythmic journey, we will also share stories through body and rhythm exercises to discover your unique identity story through the empowering beats of taiko. These sessions are free, but space is limited and registration is required. Learn more and register using the links included below:
  - Redmond Library | October 3 | noon-2:00pm
  - Downtown Bend Library | October 3 | 6:00-8:30pm
Select Programs Now Streaming Live
Our largest room space holds 80 people, which means there are times when programs fill up before everyone can get in. This month we ran some successful live-streaming tests and are happy to expand our live-streaming offerings this fall, making many of our library programs accessible to customers who can't get in due to space issues or who couldn't make it to the library. Look for the Facebook Live icon in our Events guide and online calendar to see which programs and lectures will be live-streamed via Facebook. The videos are archived after the event is over, so if you miss the live-stream you can always find the video later by clicking on Video in the left-hand column of our Facebook page.

Plus, there's so much more happening for teens at our libraries! Visit our DPL Teens page for more information about everything from a Kerbal Space Program Lab to a Pumpkin Palooza!
This October is Full of Shivers!
Thrills and chills are headed this way as we delve into everything horror in October at Deschutes Public Library. Hear tales of gruesome murders and ghostly hauntings right here in Oregon. Get goosebumps with free sneak-peek performances of The Evil Dead and The Canterville Ghost by local thespians. This month-long dive into all things horror wraps up with a professional storyteller spinning spooky tales and an exploration of Edgar Allan Poe's last days. All programs are free and open to the public. Find the full listing of programs, dates, and locations online here.
Hear from Award-winning Author Kim Fu
Join us in October to hear and learn from award-winning author Kim Fu, who the New York Times calls a " propulsive storyteller, [who uses] clear and cutting prose to move seamlessly through time."  Fu leads a workshop on the character-first model of writing on October 5 at the Downtown Bend Library, and follows that up later in the afternoon with a reading and discussion of her book The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore. Both programs are free, but space is limited for the workshop and registration is required; register online here. No registration is required for the reading and discussion. Fu's writing has appeared in Granta, the Atlantic, Hazlitt, and the Times Literary Supplement.
