We wanted to give you a little glimpse of how hard our families are working to get back on their feet. Check out these great stories from some of the residents we've helped so far this year!

Ashanti Bailey

14-year-old Ashanti Bailey came to our After School Program when her father began participating in our Employment Placement and Job Readiness Programs. 

Since participating in our program, Ashanti has come a long way with her social and emotional skills. When she first entered , she kept to herself. Now, she helps her peers with homework and reads books to everyone in the Children's Enrichment Program.

The Barthe Family:

Ms. Barthe was a stay-at-home mom caring for two children. Her fiancé lost his job due to cutbacks and they were evicted from their home in Westwego. 

After being referred to our Shelter, Ms. Barthe was able to enroll in Harmony Oaks' Adult Education Program, Dress for Success and weekly parenting classes. Her fiancé has since found a job, and with the help of our Case Management Program, the New Orleans Family Resource Center has helped enroll Ms. Barthe's children into an Orleans Parish school.
The Payne Family:

Antronquie Payne, mother of five, had financial hardships that caused her family to be evicted from their apartment. She came to our Shelter and was able to receive referrals for child care services and transportation assistance. 

Our Education & Employment Program connected her to a GED program, where she's scheduled to take a placement test in March. Already employed at McDonald's, Ms. Payne has expressed how much she loves her job but is eager to continue her education as a means of furthering her career in the industry.

The Gray Family: 

Cynda Gray came to our Shelter after she, her eldest daughter, and her three grandchildren were victims of the February 7th tornado in New Orleans East and lost all their belongings. 

We assisted Ms. Cynda in getting to health appointments to continue her medical care and prescription regimen. Ms. Cynda is also taking advantage of our Education & Employment Program. She is set to transition into her own home soon where she can continue on her way to full success and stability.
