Women Transforming Sonoma County Through Collective Philanthropy - Sept 2019

 |
Your Leadership Team is hard at work these days. We are preparing for a Leadership Retreat Day, led by one of our members, Sharon Keating. Sharon is an Organizational Psychologist who has volunteered in the past to help us better define and direct our energy. You may remember some past summer programs when Sharon helped us weigh issues of organizational values and optimal membership size.
This time we have asked Sharon to facilitate a discussion of the issues that you communicated through the survey you completed in May. Of course, we enjoyed all your positive comments in the survey and thank you for your support. However, you did express concerns about our capacity to manage our phenomenal growth while maintaining our culture and our positive spirit. We understand you are interested in growing our educational programs to learn more about non-profits in Sonoma County.
We also appreciate your concern about making each member feel included and welcomed no matter how long she has been a member and how involved she is in our organization. We share all your concerns and hope to complete our Leadership Retreat Day with positive goals and commitments going forward.
We will also be evaluating ourselves. We will identify our accomplishments this year. We will also candidly discuss those problem areas that need more time and attention. In this way we hope to provide the best leadership to you. Although it will be a long day, we are enthusiastic about outcomes that will build on our success and add value to your membership in Impact 100 Redwood Circle.
Stay tuned for a report from our October 8 retreat in the next newsletter.

NextGen Update
We are excited to announce that our first cohort of NextGen women will kick off in October. This group will provide younger members with an enhanced experience of Impact 100 RC, including special activities, mentorship and camaraderie. We invite all Impact 100 RC members who are in their 20's, 30's or 40's to join us. Since we don't have age data for our members, please let us know if you are in this age group and would like to know more about the NextGen Program. Contact Robin Wendler, rwendler@rocketmail.com, 707-889-4497.
Thank you so much to the members who have donated to the NextGen Scholarship Fund. We are actively seeking scholarship applicants to join our group and energize our giving circle with fresh voices. Do you know a young woman who is interested in philanthropy? Perhaps someone who works at the non-profit where you volunteer? We would love to meet her and tell her more about our group. Please send any introductions to Robin (above) and we'll follow up with her.

Sara Press from Sonoma Land Trust |
Thank you to Co-Chair of the Events Committee, Teresa Denniston for opening her home and garden to host this year's social. Thank you to members of the Events Committee, Barbara Haggerty, Kathryn Raimondi, Bruni Thylin and Sharon Yacura who provided desserts and Liz Bortolotto for helping to make this a successful event.
Sara Press from the Sonoma Land Trust spoke about her area of ex
pertise as the Land Acquisition Manager for the Russian River and Sonoma Coast of Sonoma County. Although many members in attendance are familiar with the Land Trust, we gained new knowledge of these specific vital areas of the county.
These events help to keep us connected and communicating. We hope to see you at an upcoming event, especially the November 9th Impact Grant meeting.

Anticipation Builds For our Fourth Impact Grant Presentation!
The Impact Grant Committee is Hard at Work
The award of a $100,000 grant is core to the purpose of Impact 100 RC... so while the lazy days of summer may be winding down, the Impact Grant Committee is busy at work.
Last spring the Committee (Suzanne Abrams, Maureen Buehler, Cathy Casteel, Ina Chun, Lizzie Colbert, Susan David, Jenny Downing, Jody Edwards, Vicki Groninga, MK Hicks, Ginger Kelly, Suzy Marzalek, Marianne Messer, Susan Milstein, Marie Mitchell, Karen Thompson, Marty Wait, and Shirley Ward) reviewed and evaluated 25 Letters of Intent submitted by nominated agencies. From these, 10 agencies were invited to submit a "Full Proposal Application" (FPA).
Committee members are now in the process of reading and evaluation FPAs, using specific criteria ... such as the short- and long-term impacts of the proposed project (and how that would be measured). A Finance Subcommittee also evaluated the budget submitted with each FPA. The Committee will meet at the end of September to discuss their scores for each FPA, and decide which agencies will be asked to move to the next step, a Q&A session in October.
The committee has been hugely impressed with the quality of the proposals submitted this year, and can't wait to narrow it down to the "Final 3" for our full general membership vote at our Annual Membership Meeting on November 9th.
The anticipation and excitement builds ...
Suzy Marzalek & Vicki Groninga, Co-Chairs, Impact Grant Committee

Our own Laura Robertson was honored recently for her amazing work at VOICES. A good handful of Impact 100 RC ladies, who spent several years on the liaison committee, attended the celebration - which coincided with VOICES ten year anniversary.
VOICES was the recipient of Impact 100 RC's first $100,000 grant. The organization has achieved unprecedented success in helping transition youth who have aged out of the foster-care system to overcome adversit. The organization has been recognized locally and nationally by leaders seeking effective strategies for addressing these youth's many needs.
Congratulations Laura on the good work you have done and your contributions in connecting the Youth Navigator with Impact 100 RC!
