RCC’s Professional Touring Artist Series (PTAS) opens this season with the extraordinary jazz trio The Bad Plus. Some of you may remember them from when they played the CenterStage several years ago. I heard them at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center a few years back and was amazed. Here is what
The New Yorker
has to say:
“The Bad Plus are the Coen brothers of jazz: Midwesterners, both ironic and dead earnest, technically brilliant, beyond versatile, a little chilly sometimes, but funny, surprising, and pretty hard to pin down.”
I actually think those last few words could pretty much sum up how I feel about the entire PTAS season – “…funny, surprising and pretty hard to pin down.”
We have the hilarious tales of Armistead Maupin and the witty commentary of Nancy Giles. You will be surprised by the amazing scientific research of Dr. Robert Sapolsky and equally surprised by your neighbor, the international opera diva Elizabeth Bishop. And you will have a hard time describing the enchanting collaboration between musicians Yumi Kurosawa and Anubrata Chatterjee or the Gullah/jazz style of Ranky Tanky.
Don’t miss The Bad Plus or any of the other terrific shows this season at the CenterStage at Reston Community Center!
