IPUL's E-News: September 27, 2019
Here are the highlights of our recent activity online. Not all everything is included due to timeliness. If an advertised event already took place, we've left it off.
We Want Your News!
If you have news, information or upcoming events in your hometown that are relevant to families who have children with disabilities or special health care needs and would like us to share that information, please email the details to parents@ipulidaho.org for review.

Our program coordinator will then share this via IPUL's social media networks. We are also happy to add events to our calendar for people to find.
We Were at the Sherman Better Block Party!
Cait Christensen from IPUL's Board of Directors and our awesome parent Brianna Iversen were at the Park(ing) It on Sherman Better Block Party in Coeur d'Alene last week, promoting an IPUL Pop-Up event, exclusively for youth called My Game of LIFE: A Unique Journey.

The October event is an interactive game, helping youth with disabilities navigate the journey to life after high school and into adulthood.

They went live on our Facebook Page, you can see the video by clicking the image below or right here.
And a little later they followed up with:

Votes were counted and it was close... Unfortunately we didn't win the $1,500 on the spot grant but we made some amazing connections within the Coeur d'Alene community. Our event is still on and we are excited to share it with you!!!

Stay tuned for more information about the "MY game of LIFE: A Unique Journey" event happening next month in Coeur d'Alene.

Mark your calendars!
Idaho children with mental illness have to be sent out of state for treatment. Here’s why
We shared this really excellent, and in-depth story from the Idaho Statesman.

"When Tricia Ellinger adopted Matthew, her oldest son, at age 2, she never thought that at age 8 he would be living half a continent away from their home in Emmett. ...

... Hundreds of beleaguered parents of children with serious emotional and mental health needs have found that Idaho has no place for their children to go for residential psychiatric care, so the only options are out of state."

A Call to Action: Help Fully Fund IDEA
We wanted to raise awareness of this campaign to have Congress fully fund (up to the 40% of costs that was initially promised) the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

There are currently three Bills in Congress that would fully fund the IDEA if passed, HR 2315, S 1172, and HR 1878.

We started by sharing a tweet about this, then linked directly to the page from NEA.ORG that explains what the stakes are in detail:
