Potato Gleaning
Regional Sweet Potato Gleaning Event
Harnett County 4-H has confirmed the date for the 2019 4-H Sweet Potato  Gleaning on October 5, 2019. They hope to glean as many sweet potatoes as possible to support the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (serving 34 counties).  They are extending an invitation to 4-H members, families and community members from Moore, Cumberland, Lee, Sampson, Wake and Johnston county to join in their efforts. The last  gleaning Harnett County hosted led to 33,000 pounds of sweet potatoes  being pulled from the ground and providing over 70,000 servings to families in need.

Here is the registration link to sign up your family, club or group. This Google Form will make sure they have the contact information for each person/group attending so they can update you once the farmer lets them know which field they will be  gleaning. Please share this event and help us fight hunger in 34 North Carolina counties.

To make the event even better, the NC State "Glean Machine" will be at our gleaning. Built by NC State engineers and students, the motorized cart is designed to cut the amount of produce that growers leave in their fields. It can carry four people low enough to the ground so that they can quickly and more easily harvest the last of a crop.

If you have any questions about the gleaning, please contact Jackie Helton at  [email protected] or by phone at 910-814-6027.

NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Conference
This is my most recommended conference for our 4-H volunteers to attend. This conference is great for new volunteers as well as those that have been involved for years! This conference offers a broad range of workshop activities, incorporates time with your district and allows time to network and learn with other 4-H volunteers and staff from throughout the state. Moore County attends Saturday during the day - this is an all day event. Breakfast and lunch are provided and a carpool option from Carthage will be available.
